Charles was born at Carlton Colville on 15 January 1876, a son of William and Maria West of Bridge Road Oulton Broad. In 1881 his family lived at Beccles Road, Carlton Colville. By 1901 they were living at Main Road, Carlton Colville. Later his mother lived at Bridge Road, Oulton Broad.
Charles joined the Royal Navy, as a Boy 2nd Class, on 17 February 1891. He was awarded the Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1911.
A Boy 1st Class with H.M.S. Formidable, Edward died on 1st of January 1915 at the age of 17.
Edward was born at Lowestoft on 8 April 1897, a son of Robert Capps Jenner and Elsie Capps Jenner. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 14 November 1897 and his family lived at 25 Spurgeon's Score. By 1911 they were living at 12 Spurgeon Score, and Edward was a fish merchant's errand boy.
Edward joined the Royal Navy, as a Boy 2nd Class, on 28 February 1914. On 6 June 1914 he joined H.M.S. Formidable.
A Seaman with H.M.S. Formidable, Charles died on 1st of January 1915 at the age of 21.
Charles was born at Lowestoft on 11 March 1893, a son of Walter and Elizabeth Sarah Parsk. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 7 April 1893. Charles' mother died in 1895 and in 1901 he lived with his aunt, Sarah Parsk, at White Cottage, Carlton Colville. By 1911 his father had married Leah Olive Peek, and the family lived at 2 Farrows Yard, Factory Street and Charles was a fisherman. Later his family lived at 4 Epsom Terrace, Kirkley Run, Lowestoft.
A Colour Sergeant with 1/4th Battalion. James died on 2nd of January 1915 at the age of 38.
James was born at Lowestoft on 29 September 1876, a son of James Edward Burwood and Mary Ann Capps. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 1 October 1876. In 1881 his family lived at 7 Crown Street, Lowestoft, and by 1891 at 90 Albert Street. James began work as a Post Office sorting clerk and telegraphist at Lowestoft in 1893.
A Sergeant with 54th Field Company, Frederick Baker died on 7th of January 1915 at the age of 38.
Frederick was born at Lowestoft on 8 December 1876, a son of Frederick William and Elizabeth Naunton Baker. In 1881 his family lived at 8 New Nelson Street, Lowestoft, and by 1891 where living at 118 Denmark Road.
Frederick served an apprenticeship with his father's General and Ship-smiths business.
A Private with 3rd Bn. Ernest died on 17th of January 1915 at the age of 17.
Ernest was born at Lowestoft in 1898, a son of Louisa Mary Oldman. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church on 21 September 1899 and his mother lived at 3 Wesleyan Chapel Lane. In 1901 his family were living at 1 Wesleyan Chapel Lane. His mother later married William Edmonds and in 1911 Ernest lived with his mother and step-father at 8 White Horse Street. Later his mother lived at 27 Chapel Street Lowestoft.
A Sapper with 1st Field Company, West Riding Division, Bernard died on 17th of January 1915 at the age of 19.
Bernard was born at Leeds in 1896, a son of Charles Asquith Walker and Maude Clarke Walker. In 1901 his family were living at 88 Craven Road, Leeds, and in 1911 at 36 Shakespeare Road, Rotherham. After the First World War his family moved to Lowestoft and lived at of 42 A High Street.
Bernard was working as a fitter and living at 36 Shakespeare Road, Rotherham, when he enlisted in the Royal Engineers, at Sheffield, on 5 October 1914.
A Corporal with 1st Suffolk Battery 3rd East Anglian Howitzer Brigade, Eldrick died on 18th of January 1915 at the age of 20.
Eldrick was born at Lowestoft in 1895, a son of Robert and Mercy Webb Garrod. In 1901 his family lived at 1901 152 Denmark Road, Lowestoft, and by 1911 at 22 Norfolk Street, Lowestoft. Later his mother lived at 81 Dalyell Road, Brixton, London.
A Stoker with H.M.S. Pembroke, Alfred died on 20th of January 1915 at the age of 19.
Alfred was born at Lowestoft on 22 September 1895, a son of George and Martha Osborne. In 1901 his family lived at 3 Nobbs Buildings, Whapload Road, Lowestoft, and this was still their address in 1914. Later they lived at 215 Raglan Street, Lowestoft.
Alfred had two years service before he joined the Royal Naval Reserve.

Samuel was born at Pakefield in 1861, a son of Henry Lincoln and Matilda Martin. In 1871 his family lived at 10 Sustins Cottages, High Street, Pakefield. In 1881 they lived at 11 Stone Alley, Pakefield, and Samuel was a fisherman.
A Third Hand with Steam Trawler Labrador (Lowestoft), Felix died on 23rd of January 1915 at the age of 31.
Felix was born at Kirkley on 10 March 1884, a son of William and Phoebe Frankling. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 9 April 1886 and his family lived at Saint Georges Road. Note the baptism register gives his surname as Franklin. In 1891 his family lived at 49 Lawson Road, Kirkley, and by 1901 their home was at 1 Church Road, Kirkley.
A Second Engineer with Steam Trawler Labrador (Lowestoft), Harry died on 23rd of January 1915 at the age of 25.
Harry was born at Hales, Norfolk, on 27 Mat 1890, a son of Alfred and Emily Sparkes. He was baptised at Heckingham, Norfolk, on 22 June 1890 and his family lived at Heckingham. In 1891 his family were living at Yarmouth Road, Hales. By 1901 they had moved to 6 Carlton Road, Carlton Colville, and this was still their home in 1911 when Harry worked as a herring fisherman.
A Deck Hand with Steam Trawler Labrador (Lowestoft), Frederick died on 23rd of January 1915 at the age of 34.
Frederick was born at Pakefield on 5 October 1881, a son of William Frederick and Elizabeth Ann Rushmore. He was baptised at All Saints' Church, Pakefield, on 13 November 1881. Frederick attended Cunningham Infants School from 13 April 1885 and, from 25 June 1888, Cunningham Mixed School. In 1891 his family lived at 2 Beach Street, Pakefield.
A Mate with Steam Trawler Labrador (Lowestoft), Henry died on 23rd of January 1915 at the age of 34.
Henry was born at Pakefield on 14 June 1881, a son of Henry George and Sarah Adams. He was baptised at All Saints' Church, Pakefield, on 13 July 1884. Henry attended Cunningham Infants School from 27 August 1884 and Cunningham Mixed School from 25 June 1888. In 1891 his family lived at 10 Beach Street, Pakefield, and by 1901 were living at 51 Tonning Street and Henry was a fisherman.
A Skipper with Steam Trawler Labrador (Lowestoft), Stephen died on 23rd of January 1915 at the age of 42.
Son of Emmanuel and Mary Ann Elizabeth Peek. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 7 December 1873. In 1881 he lived with his grandmother at 9 Barn Lane, Pakefield.
On 7 April 1896 Stephen married Isabell Susan Haylock at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley. Stephen was a fisherman and they both lived at Kirkley. In 1901 they lived at 13 Lorne Road, and Stephen was a fisherman, and by 1911 their home was at 5 Lorne Road, Kirkley.
A Trimmer with Steam Trawler Labrador (Lowestoft), Emmanuel died on 23rd of January 1915 at the age of 17.
Emmanuel was born at Kirkley in 1897, a son of Stephen George and Isabell Susan Peek. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 7 December 1897 and his family lived at 96 Pakefield Street. In 1901 they lived at 13 Lorne Road, and by 1911 their home was at 5 Lorne Road, Kirkley.

Austin was born at Kessingland in 1882, a son of Benjamin and Matilda Utting. He was baptised at Saint Edmund's Church, Kessingland, on 29 October 1882. In 1891 his family lived at Beach Road, Kessingland.
In 1901 Austin was a seaman working on the trawler Bittern, LT228, at Newlyn.

Lewis was born at Lowestoft on 3 November 1891, a son of Lewis Last Green and Harriett Green. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 2 December 1891, and his family lived at 38 Stanford Street. In 1901 his family lived at 129 Wollaston Road. Lewis attended the British School, Lowestoft, and from 16 September 1901 was a pupil at Saint Margaret's School, Lowestoft. His mother died in 1906 and his father remarried and the family lived at 18 Stanford Street, Lowestoft.
A Boatswain and Lamps with S.S. Oriole (London). James died on 30th of January 1915 at the age of 43.
James was born at Lowestoft in 1871, a son of James and Elizabeth Hargrave. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 1 October 1871. In 1881 his family lived at 6 Grosvenor Road, Lowestoft.
In 1891 James was lodging at 45 Battersea Park Road, Battersea, London, and James was a lighterman's apprentice and it seems that he began work as a Thames Lighterman in 1888.

Thomas was born at Lowestoft on 3 May 1891, a son of Robert and Ann Elizabeth Holland. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 29 May 1891 and his family lived at Maltsters Score. In 1901 their address was 9 Maltsters Score and by 1911 they were living at 15 Dove Street, and Thomas was a herring fisherman.
A Petty Officer 1st Class with H.M. Trawler Courtier, John died on 6th of January 1916 at the age of 45.
John was born at Durham on 19 October 1870, a son of Abel and Ann Barber. In 1871 John, and his mother, were with his maternal grandmother, Harriet Rose, at 9 Rack Terrace, Kidderminster. By 1881 John’s mother had died and his family lived at a Court in Mill Street, Kidderminster.
An Air Mechanic 1st Class with H.M.S. President II. Reginald died on 12th of January 1916 at the age of 23.
Reginald was born at Lowestoft on 15 December 1892, a son of Edward and Mary Blowers. In 1901 his family lived at Brickyard Cottages, Oulton Broad. By 1911 they lived at 1 Stanley Road, Oulton Broad, and Reginald worked as a carpenter. Later his family lived at 5 Sunnyside Cottages, Victoria Road, Oulton Broad.
Reginald was working as a carpenter and joiner when he joined the Royal Naval Air Service on 23 November 1914 'for the duration of hostilities.'
A Lance Corporal with the 9th Battalion, Herbert died on 15th of January 1916 at the age of 36.
Herbert was born at Lowestoft in 1879, a son of John and Matilda Rogers. In 1881 his family lived at 14 Albert Street, and in 1891 at 30 Edinburgh Road. In 1901 his parents lived at 6 Duke’s Head Street, and later his father lived at 10 Duke's Head Street.
Herbert served with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Norfolk Regiment.
A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Sydney died on 22nd of January 1916 at the age of 33.
Sydney was born at Blundeston in 1883, a son of Charles Elijah and Ellen Gillings. He was baptised at Saint Mary’s Church, Blundeston, on 4 February 1883. In 1891 his family lived at High Street, Blundeston. By 1901 their address was The Street, Blundeston, and Sydney was a bricklayer’s labourer. Later his parents lived near The Plough, Blundeston.

Clifford was born at Benacre in 1894, a son of Isaac and Annie Maria Scott. In 1901 his family lived at The Turnpike, Shadingfield. By 1911 they were living at Meadows Cottages, Flixton, near Lowestoft, and Clifford was a yard boy on a farm. Later his family lived at 43 Kimberley Road, Kirkley, Lowestoft.

Ernest was born at Worlingham in 1886, a son of Alfred and Mary Ann Bennett. He was baptised at Worlingham on 25 April 1886. In 1891 his family lived at Haithe Road (sic), Worlingham, and by 1901 were living at Wingfield Road, Bungay, and Ernest worked as an apprentice harness maker. Later Ernest's father became a publican.

John was born at Lowestoft in 1885, a son of John James and Mary Ann Nelson. In 1891 his family lived at 25 Mariners Street, Lowestoft. In 1901 they were living at 49 Mariners Street, and John was an errand boy. By 1911 John’s mother had died and he lived with his father at 8 Factory Street and he worked as a furniture carter. Later his father lived at 1 Bemmints Buildings, Saint Peters Street, Lowestoft.
A Private with the 16th Battalion, Frederick died on 28th of January 1916 at the age of 21.
Frederick was born at Norwich on 19 April 1895, a son of Edwin Procter and Charlotte Emma King. In 1901 has family lived at ‘Lock Up Shop’, 39, West End Street, Heigham, Norwich. Frederick was baptised at Saint Matthew’s Church, Thorpe Hamlet, Norwich, on 27 December 1903. By 1911 his family were living at 26 Salisbury Road, Lowestoft, and Frederick was an apprentice carpenter, possibly working with his father.

Ronald was born at Kessingland on 6 December 1887, a son of Samuel and Mary Knights. He was baptised at Saint Edmund’s Church, Kessingland, on 16 December 1887. In 1891 his family lived at Market Place, Kessingland, and by 1901 at Gladstone Cottages, London Road, Kessingland. They were still living at Gladstone Cottages in 1911 and Ronald was a house painter.
A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler Donside, Ernest died on 7th of January 1917 at the age of 25.
Ernest was born at Lowestoft on 15 April 1891, a son of William George and Margaret Louisa Yallop. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 3 July 1891 and his family lived at 32 Saint Margaret’s Road. In 1901 his family lived at 4 Spurgeon’s Score. In 1911 Ernest worked on the trawler Early Morn. By 1916 his family were living at 87 Sussex Road, and later they lived at 73 Park Road.
Ernest joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 20 March 1916 and he served with the trawler Donside.
A Chief Engineer with S.S. Planudes, Richard died on 18th of January 1917 at the age of 29.
Richard was born at Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, in 1888, a son of Richard Allison Wilson and Ann Llewellyn Wilson. In 1891 he was living with his grandmother, Ellen Llewellyn, at Burnaby Street, Byker. In 1901 he was living with his parents at 11 Mason Street, Byker.
In 1911 Richard was the Second Engineer on the S.S. Active (London) at King’s Lynn.
A Deck Hand, Joseph died of wounds on 20th January 1917, at the age of 36.
Joseph was born at Lowestoft on 22nd January 1881 and was a son of Samuel and Louisa Martin of 32 Pakefield Street, Kirkley. Joseph was a smacksman/fisherman.
Joseph married Susannah Margaret Frances at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 1st September 1901. They lived at 29 Jacob's Street, Lowestoft, and later at 30 Jacob's Street.
Joseph enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve on 14 June 1915.
A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler New Comet. Clifford died on 20th of January 1917 at the age of 32.
Clifford was born at Lowestoft in on 4 April 1885, a son of John Joseph and Jane Anne (Annie/Anna) Blyth. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 29 April 1885 and his family lived at 3 Strand Cottages. By 1891 his father had died and his family lived at Anguish Street.

Arthur was born at Pakefield, Lowestoft on 28 September 1878, a son of Frederick and Mary Clarke. He was baptised at All Saints' Church, Pakefield, on 19 September 1880 and his family lived at Pakefield. In 1881 their home was at 2 Squires Cottages, Carlton Road, Pakefield. In 1891 their address was 2 Carlton Road, Pakefield.
A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler New Comet. Robert died on 20th of January 1917 at the age of 30.
Robert was born at Lowestoft on 14 February 1886, a son of Robert Edward and Charlotte Patience Burch. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 6 June 1886. His family lived at 37 Alma Road, Lowestoft. Robert worked as a fisherman.
Robert joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 19 June 1916. He was killed when the trawler New Comet was blown up by a mine off Orfordness.
Robert's father, also named Robert, served with the Royal Naval Reserve, and died in 1914.
A Rifleman with 1/5th Bn., Harry died on 25th of January 1917 at the age of 36.
Harry was born at Lowestoft in 1881, a son of Harry Edward and Mary Ann Tripp. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 25 December 1881. In 1891 his family lived at 80 High Street, Lowestoft, and this was still their home in 1901 when Harry was an elementary school teacher (an ex pupil teacher). Later his parents lived at 137 Saint Peter's Street, Lowestoft.
A Corporal with the 47th Battalion, Leonard died on 25th of January 1917 at the age of 27.
Leonard was born at Lowestoft on 15 May 1889, a son of Henry John and Eliza Cook. In 1891 his family lived at 48 Seago Street. Leonard was a pupil at Christchurch School until 2 March 1896, when he joined Saint John’s School. From 15 December 1896 he was a pupil at Saint Margaret’s School. By 1901 his family were living at Battery Green Road.
Leonard emigrated to Canada in 1907. His brother Clifford also moved to Canada.
A Skipper on Sailing Trawler Trevone. James died on 29th January 1917 at the age of 44.
James was born at Weybread, Suffolk, in 1874, a son of Charles and Elizabeth Rodwell. He was baptised at Saint Andrew's Church, Weybread, on 10 May 1874. In 1881 his family lived at 5 Oulton Road, Oulton, and by 1891 they were living at Gordon Terrace, Beccles Road, Carlton Colville, and John worked as a shepherd's boy. In 1901 they lived at Oulton Street and by 1911 Charles' mother had died and his father lived at 15 Marsh Road, Oulton Broad.
A Cook with Sailing Trawler Trevone (Lowestoft). Herbert died on 29th of January 1917 at the age of 38.
Herbert was born in 1876. Most sources state that he was born at Lowestoft, however the 1881 Census shows him living with Charlotte Plant, a widow, at 46 Stevens Street, and gives his place of birth as Paddington, London. He has not been traced in the 1891 Census, but in 1901 he was again living with Charlotte, at 46 Stevens Street, and he worked as a quay labourer.
A Private with 10th Battalion Suffolk Regiment, Alexander died on 1st of January 1918 at the age of 37.
Alexander was born at Lingwood in 1880, a son of Mary Ann (Marion) Littlewood. The 1881 Census records Alexander, and his mother, being inmates at Lingwood Workhouse. By 1891 Alexander was living at 6 Hervey Street, Lowestoft, with his grandmother, Ann Littlewood, and Alexander worked as a hawker- news (boy). In 1901 Alexander worked as a labourer, in London, and lodged at 24 Longfellows Road, Mile End.
A Corporal with the 1/5th Battalion, Henry died on 4th of January 1918 at the age of 33.
Henry was born at Wrentham, Suffolk, in 1884, a son of Henry William and Sarah Anne Briggs. In 1891 his family lived at London Road, Wrentham, and this was still their address in 1901 when Henry worked as a rural postman.
A Seaman with the Royal Naval Reserve, Thomas died on 14th of January 1918 at the age of 28.
Thomas was born at Lowestoft on 31 December 1889, a son of Charles Edward and Sarah Coleman. In 1891 Thomas' family lived at 25 Jacob's Street, Lowestoft, and this was his home throughout his life. By 1911 Thomas was working as a fisherman. The 1911 Census shows him as the Forth Hand on the trawler Loch Lomond at Padstow.
A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler Gambri, Harry died on 18th of January 1918 at the age of 27.
Harry was born at Oulton Broad on 25 February 1891, a son of Charles and Georgianna Nunn. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Carlton Colville, on 27 September 1894 and his family lived at Carlton Colville. In 1901 his family lived at Bell Road, Calton Colville. In 1911 Harry was working as a drifter fisherman and lived with sister Ellen Garrod and her husband Edward at 84 Stanford Street.
A Private with 648 Mechanical Transport Company, Maurice died on 19th of January 1918 at the age of 29.
Maurice was born at Walton, Suffolk, in 1889, a son of Thomas and Caroline Clarke. In 1891 his family lived at High Street, Walton. By 1901 they were living at the Old Market, Kessingland. In 1911 they lived at High Street, Kessingland, and Maurice worked with his father as a cycle and motor engineer.
Maurice enlisted in the Army at Lowestoft. He joined the Army Service Corps, service number DM2/209838.
An Acting Commissioned Gunner with H.M.S. Raglan, Arthur died on 20th of January 1918 at the age of 26.
Arthur was born at Lowestoft on 15 November 1891, a son of Arthur Henry and Agnes Marr Pitt. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 16 December 1891 and his family lived at 4 Spurgeon Score. In 1901 their address was 5 Spurgeon Score and later they lived at 10 Spurgeon Score, High Street, Lowestoft.
A Second Lieutenant with 93 Squadron, Donald died on 31st of January 1918 at the age of 23.
Donald was born at Lowestoft on 16 December 1894, a son of Alfred James Edmund and Amy Ellen Gee. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church, Lowestoft, on 13 September 1895, and his family lived at 4 Surrey Street. The 1901 Census shows Donald with his grandparents, John and Charlotte Gee, at 61 Albert Street. By 1911 his parents were living at 5 Regent Road and later they lived at 22 Marine Parade.
A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler Strathgeldie, Arthur died on 4th of January 1919 at the age of 22.
Arthur was born at Kessingland on 3 January 1897, a son of Barzillai Thompson and Annie Maria Durrant. He was baptised at Saint Edmund's Church, Kessingland, on 19 March 1899. In 1901 his family lived at Prospect Cottages, London Road, Kessingland, and by 1911 at 1 Jubilee Villas, London Road, Kessingland. Later they lived at Lyndia Cottage, Kessingland.
A Deck Hand with H.M. Armed Fishing Smack Ivanhoe, George died on 9th of January 1919 at the age of 18.
George is believed to have been born at Lowestoft on 12 January 1901, a son of Agnes Emily Brown. In 1901 George, and his mother, lodged at 36 Arnold Street. During 1904 George’s mother married Benjamin Norman. On 11 October 1904 he became a pupil at Cunningham School and his family lived at 9 Wellington Road. He left Cunningham School on 15 June 1910 as his family had moved into Lowestoft. In 1911 his family lived at 32 Haward Street.
A Mate with H.M. Armed Fishing Smack Ivanhoe, Benjamin died on 9th of January 1919 at the age of 26.
It is believed that Benjamin was born at Lowestoft in 1892, a son of Henry and Emily Robinson. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 12 February 1892, and his family lived at 20 Alma Road. Benjamin’s father died in 1894 and in 1901 his family lived at Laundry Lane. In 1911 Benjamin lived with his sister Nellie Wood, and her husband William, at 4 Mummery’s Buildings, Saint Peter’s Street, and Benjamin was a fisherman. Later his sister lived at 4 Princes Road.
A Skipper with H.M. Armed Fishing Smack Ivanhoe, John died on 9th of January 1919 at the age of 46.
John was born at Lowestoft on 11 February 1872, a son of John James and Anne Tucker. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 4 September 1881 and his family lived at 2 Mill Road. By 1891 they were living at 6 Waveney Terrace, Whapload Road. Later his parents lived at 92 Clapham Road.
A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler Silver King, Ernest died on 21st of January 1919 at the age of 18.

He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 18 March 1900 and his family lived at 24 Southwell Road. In 1901 they lived at Jarvis Buildings, Carlton Colville, and in 1911 at 43 Southwell Road. Later Ernest’s parents lived at 7 Lovewell Road.
Formerly a Private with the 1/4th Battalion, Stanley died on 13th of January 1920 at the age of 23.
Stanley was born at Lowestoft in 1897, a son of Thomas Sidney and Elizabeth Rix. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 21 July 1897 and his family lived at 78 Tennyson Road. This was still the family home in 1911 when Stanley worked as a doctor’s errand boy. Later his parents lived at 62 Saint Peter’s Street.

Daniel was born at Lowestoft in 1895, a son of Daniel and Margaret (Maggie) Francis. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 4 October 1895 and his family lived at 29 Jacob’s Street, which would be Daniel’s home for the rest of his life. In 1911 Daniel worked as a labourer at the fish yard.

Thomas was born at Scarborough on 30 August 1896, a son of James and Ellen Bayes. In 1901 his family lived at 1 Gashouse Yard, Scarborough, and by 1911 they were living at 2 Black Horse Yard, Scarborough and this was still the family home in 1915.
On 17 March 1917 Thomas married Rose Louisa Francis at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft. Thomas was a Decker with H.M.S. Vitality, and Rose lived at her family home, 29 Jacob's Street.
A Cook with Steam Trawler Derwent (Boston), Joseph died on 26th of January 1920 at the age of 21.
Joseph was born at Lowestoft on 16 March 1899, a son of Aldous Ward and Sarah Elizabeth Saunders. In 1901 his family lived at 2 Wellington Cottages. By 1911 they were living at 2 Herring Fishery Score, and in 1916 they lived at 6 Maltster’s Score.
In 1919 Joseph married Lilian Ethel Prettyman: this was registered in the Mutford district. Their home was at 2 Wells Yard, Saint Peter’s Street. In 1922 Lilian married Edward Godbold.

James was born at Lowestoft on 2 October 1903, a son of James Henry and Eva Mary Gower. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 10 April 1904, and his family lived at 26 Rotterdam Road. The 1911 Census shows James with his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Ellen Wilson, at Pyrancha Cottage, Commodore Road, Oulton Broad. Later his family lived at 68 Carlton Road, Kirkley.

Walter was born at Flixton on 6 June 1891, a son of Charles and Esther Clarke. In 1881 his family had lived at Gillingham and by 1891 they were living at Flixton Road, Blundeston. By 1901 they were living at 34 Stevens Street, Lowestoft, and this was still their home in 1911.
In 1911 Walter was the Fourth Hand on the trawler Advance at Haking and Milford, Pembrokeshire. Later he lived at 87 Maidstone Road, Lowestoft.

Joseph was born at Liverpool on 2 June 1896, a son of Thomas and Margaret Rodgers. In 1901 his family lived at 66 Beacon Lane, Everton. In 1911 they lived at 24 Calder Street, Liverpool, and Joseph was a grocer’s errand boy. By 1915 they were living at 12 Copeland Street, Liverpool.
An Able Seaman of the trawler Quiet Waters, Gordon died on the 4th of January 1940 aged 25.
Gordon was born at Kessingland in 1915, a son of Edward W J and Florence Lilian Marjoram. In 1921 his family lived at 2 Zulu Cottages, Kessingland. Later his family lived at 1 Zeederburgh Cottages, Whites Lane, Kessingland.

A Seaman Steward with H.M. Trawler Kingston Cornelian. Arthur died on 5th of January 1940 at the age of 18.
Arthur was born at Lowestoft on 8 August 1921, a son of Harry George and Betsy Susannah Dennant. His family lived at 40 Raglan Street and later his parents lived at Blundeston.
On 5 January 1940 the Kingston Cornelain was in the Strait of Gibraltar. The trawler was in a collision with the French merchant ship Chella. The trawler sank very quickly with the loss of all seventeen crew, including Arthur.

Christopher was born at Barnby on 12 May 1912, a son of Evelyn Rendlesham Hunt (nee Baxter) and step-son of Walter Hunt. In 1921 he lived with his grandparents, Walter and Martha Baxter, at Barnby.
In 1939 his family lived at Waveney Cottages, Barnby, and Christopher was a deep sea fisherman.

Herbert was born at Lowestoft on 9 June 1906, a son of Herbert and Lucy Agnes Jeffries. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 4 June 1909 and his family lived at 1 Short Street, and this was still their home in 1921, when Herbert worked as an errand boy for Coleman and Brown, Chemists, at 216 London Road.
A Chief Engineer with Steam Trawler Newhaven (Lowestoft), Herbert died on 15th of January 1940 aged 40.
Herbet was born at Gisleham on 9 April 1899, a son of Samuel and Mary E. Page. In 1901 his family lived at Covehithe. By 1911 Herbert’s father had died and his family lived at Peasenhall.

Walter joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 14 September 1915, number 8643 DA. He served on the trawler Girl Grace until 15 January 1917 when he joined the Admirable.

A Skipper with Steam Trawler Newhaven (Lowestoft), Edward died on 15th of January 1940 at the age of 32.
Edward was born at Lowestoft on 5 November 1907, a son of William George and Louisa Elizabeth Wright. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 28 November 1907, and his family lived at Ezra Cottage, 8 The Hemplands. By 1911 Edward’s mother had died and his family still lived at Ezra Cottage.

Stanley was born at Andover, Hampshire, on 22 February 1909, a son of Divers and Elizabeth Peters. In 1911 his family were resident at the Andover Union Workhouse. By 1921 both of Stanley’s parents had died and Stanley attended the Watts Naval Training School at North Elmham, Norfolk.

John was born at Lowestoft on 11 July 1911, a son of Joseph and Laura Elizabeth Baker. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 1 August 1911 and his family lived at 3 Jacobs Street.
John joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 16 February 1935. He completed his training at 'P' Depot and H.M.S. Iron Duke. He also completed training in 1937 at 'C' Depot and H.M.S. Veteran.
A Seaman with East Dudgeon Light Vessel, George died on 29th of January 1940 aged 31.
George was born at Lowestoft on 26 August 1908, a son of Alfred and Emma Jane Jackson. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 1 September 1908 and his family lived at 4 Maltsters Score, and this was still their home in 1911. By 1921 they were living at 100 Seago Street
On 15 April 1929 George married Gladys May Lockwood at Saint Margaret’s Church. George was a fisherman, living at 100 Seago Street, and Gladys lived at 26 Norfolk Street. In 1940 their home was at 86 Rotterdam Road.

Ellen was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 14 January 1874, a daughter of George and Sarah Oakes. By 1901 her family were living at High Street Corton. On 24 May 1902 Ellen married George Edward Mills.
By 1911 they were living at Ethel Cottage, Victoria Road, Oulton Broad, and in 1921 they lived at the Conservative Club, Bridge Road, Oulton Broad, where George was the steward. In 1939 their home was at Red Ridge, 20 Edgerton Road.

Barbara was born at Lowestoft in 1926, a daughter of Doris Ethel Wright. In 1928 Barbara’s mother married Charles Reginald Brown and by 1933 Doris and Charles were living at Hackney, London. In 1939 Barbara’s mother lived at Queen’s Road School Fire Station, Hackney, and worked with the Auxiliary Fire Service.
In 1939 Barbara lived with her grandmother, Maud Rackham, formerly Wright, at 16 Worthing Road, Lowestoft.

Ernest was born at Lowestoft on 18 September 1879, a son of John and Frances Bonsall. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 30 January 1880 and his family lived at 13 Piere Terrace. By 1891 their home was at 7 Piere Terrace and this was still their home until at least 1911. Ernest became a watchmaker and jeweller, working with his father, and was, later, a clock repairer.

In 1933 Dorothy married Ernest Bonsall, this was registered in the Great Yarmouth district. By 1939 their home was at Glenesk, 17 Beccles Road, Oulton Broad, and they had a jeweller’s shop at 92 London Road North where Dorothy assisted Ernest in their business.

Laura was born at Lowestoft on 29 December 1905, a daughter of Robert Frank Bessant and Florence Caroline Bessant. Both the 1911 Census and the 1939 Register show Laura's family living at 263 Raglan Street.
Before joining the Women's Royal Naval Service Laura has worked as a shop assistant - ladies dresses.
Laura and two other WRENS, Ivy Creighton, from Kent, and Margaret Thompson, from Holt, were killed when the cafe they were visiting was bombed.

In 1921 Dorothy worked as a greengrocer's assistant for A. Dorling at London Road. By 1939 she was a printing machine feeder (unemployed).

The Captain sent for me. He gravely told me a telegram from my Father had reported a serious raid on Lowestoft, my home town. He told me “Winnie is missing”. I almost collapsed, a pain shooting through my very soul.
A Sergeant (Observer) with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Eric died on 14th January 1942 aged 19.
Eric was born at Lowestoft on 2 May 1922, a son of William and Hilda Maud Harper. In 1939 his family lived at 56 Kent Road and Eric was a journalist.
Eric moved to Tottenham, London. He joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve between September 1939 and June 1940. By January 1941 he was an Observer serving with 207 Squadron.

Edith was born at Lowestoft on 14 January 1890, a daughter of Walter Alexander and Matilda Budds. In 1891 her family lived at 55 Tonning Street, and by 1901 they were living at 57 Stanley Street.
In 1911Edith was in domestic service, working for Alice Ditchfield at Belvoir Villa, 1 Church Road.
On 23 September 1924 Edith married Albert Edward Walker at Saint John’s Church. Albert was a shop assistant living at 35 Saint George’s Road, and Edith lived at 57 Stanley Street.

Mary was born at Norwich on 16 March 1868, a daughter of John and Ruth Kirby. In 1869 her family spent a month at Saint Andrew's Workhouse, Norwich. By 1871 they were living at John Bull Street, Heigham, Norwich. In 1874 Mary, and her mother and sisters, were again admitted to Saint Andrew's Workhouse.
On 14 June 1875 Mary became a pupil at Saint Stephen's School, Norwich. By 1881 her family were living at Shoulder of Mutton Yard, Norwich.

Alan was born at Lowestoft on 23 July 1928, a son of James Albert and Dora Vida Sterry. In 1939 his family lived at 55 Stanley Street and Alan was a schoolboy.

Emma was born at Lowestoft on 10 February 1867, a daughter of George and Eliza Barber. In 1871 her family lived at Mariners Street Court and by 1881 at 7 Bishop’s Opening.
In 1888 Emma married John Tuthill. John died and in 1891 Emma lodged at 58 High Street with the Tuttle family and she was a domestic servant. In 1893 Emma married William Thomas King and they moved to Forest Gate, Essex.

Blanche was born at Lowestoft in 1894, a daughter of Albert Edward and Eliza Bushell. She was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 1 June 1894, and her family lived at 50 Stanford Street. Blanche’s father was a baker. By 1901 her family were living at 21 Duke’s Head Street, and later her parents lived at 72 Sussex Road. In 1911 Blanche lived at 90 Park Road, and she was a domestic servant working for William and Harriett Green.

Marguerite was born at Lowestoft on 9 September 1898, a daughter of Robert James and Henrietta Gouldby. She was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 7 November 1898. Throughout her life her family home was at 51 Stanley Street.
In 1921 Marguerite worked as a shop assistant at L. Wren & Son Ltd., High Street, Lowestoft.

Jessie was born at Lowestoft on 11 June 1899, a daughter of Arthur Jacobs and Olive Moore. In 1901 her family lived at 48 Stanley Street, and this was Jessie's home for the rest of her life.
Jessie married William Arthur Godbold, at Lowestoft, in early 1919.

By 1921 James lived at 5 Hope Terrace, Kessingland, and James was an apprentice monumental sculptor working for his father. In 1939 James lived with his family at Red Bungalow, Kessingland Beach, and James was a monumental sculptor. Later his parents lived at Xantho, Green Lane, Kessingland.
James died at Stanley Street during an air raid.

Dennis was born at Norwich on 5 April 1915, a son of Frank Spencer Adcock and of May Mildred Adcock. In 1921 his family lived at the Police Station, East Dereham, where is father was a Police Constable. By 1939 they were living at Docking, Norfolk, where is father was the licensee of The Railway public house and Dennis worked as a grocer's assistant. Later his parents lived at 39 Stanford Street.

John was born at Hopton on 12 June 1913, a son of Alfred and Rose Elizabeth Reeder. By 1939 his family were living at Blacksmith Loke, Hopton, and John worked as a postman.

By 1901 his family had moved to Lowestoft and lived at 4 Waveney Drive, and this was still their address in 1911 when William worked as an engineer. By 1916 their home was at Chesterfield House, Lowestoft, and later his parents lived at Arlington, North Parade.

Stanley was born at Lowestoft on 23 August 1914, a son of Alfred Laurence and Florence Elizabeth Shreeve. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 11 September 1914 and hos family lived at 35 Haward Street. By 1921 his family lived at 82 Stanford Street. By 1939 they were living at 153 Clapham Road, Lowestoft, and Stanley worked as a trawl and drift fisherman.

Jack was born at Kessingland on 27 December 1905, a son of James and Ellen Barker. He was baptised at Saint Edmund’s Church, Kessingland, on 20 April 1911. In 1921 his family lived at London Road, Kessingland. In 1939 Jack’s widowed mother lived at 2 Collins Cottages, High Street, Kessingland.
In 1939 Jack was an Able Seaman with the steam mooring vessel Recovery of Leith at Harwich. From 10 November 1941 Jack served as the Bosun on the Recovery of Leith.
A Gunner with 277 Battery, 68 (Midlands) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Ernest died on 3rd of January 1943 aged 36.
Ernest was born at Lowestoft on 24 November 1906, a son of Christopher George and Mary Ann Hembling. In 1911 his family lived at 19 Mariners Street. By 1921 his family were living at 54 Mariners Street.
Ernest was a general labourer when he enlisted in the Royal Marines, service number Ch 24774, at London, on 29 September 1925.

James was born at Lowestoft on 17 November 1914, a son of Thomas Charles and Harriet Jane Wylie. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 11 December 1914 and his family lived at 72 Queens Road and this was still their home in 1921.
James married Ellen Smith, at Lowestoft, in 1939 and they lived at 80 Kirkley Run. James worked as a general labourer with railway engineering maintenance and supply staff.

Eric was born at Chorley, Lancashire, on 17 November 1922, a son of William and Evelyn Berry. In 1939 his family lived at Loomdi, Normanston Drive, and Eric was an electrician and engineer.
Eric enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after August 1940. On 19 December 1942 Eric joined 75 Squadron, at R.A.F. Newmarket. He was a Wireless Operator.
A Leading Seaman, Arthur died on 30th January 1943 aged 24.
Arthur was born at Lowestoft in 1919, a son of Arthur George and Ada P. Sewell. In 1921 his family lived at 44 Beaconsfield Road, Lowestoft. By 1939 his family lived at Wrights Cottages, High Street, Kessingland.
In January 1943 Arthur was serving with the corvette H.M.S. Samphire. On 30 January 1943 the Samphire was escorting convoy TE-14 as part of the North Africa campaign. When off Bougie, Algeria, the ship was torpedoed and sunk by the Italian submarine Platino with the loss of 44 lives.

Tom was born at Hull on 9 February 1907, a son of Thomas William and Annie Elizabeth Collis. In 1911 his family lived at 5 County Villas, Milton Road, Lowestoft. Later his family lived at 1 Maidstone Road, Lowestoft.

George was born at Lowestoft on 25 July 1913, a son of George and Lottie Bennett. In 1921 his family lived at 20 Cambridge Road, Lowestoft. George's father died in 1921. Later his mother lived at Rear 69 Crown Street, Lowestoft.

James was born at Tyrone, Northern Ireland, in 1908, a son of James and Rosana McGale.
In 1937 James was living in London and he married Violet Mary Goddard, their marriage was registered in the Southwark district. Violet was born at Kessingland. Violet remarried in 1944 and for a time lived in Canada before returning to live at Somerleyton.
A Chief Stoker with H.M.S. Oakley, Henry died on 26th of January 1944 aged 41.
Henry was born at Deptford, London, on 23 January 1903, a son of Henry Jeremiah and Florence May. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church, Deptford, on 18 February 1903 and his family lived at 30 Nelson Street, Deptford. By 1911 they were living at 111 Dale Road, Canning Town.
A Fifth Engineer Officer with S.S. Fort Bellingham (London), William died on 26th of January 1944 aged 22.
William was born at Lowestoft on 15 November 1921, a son of Oliver and Martha Hannah Brown of Lowestoft Suffolk. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 2 December 1921 and his family lived at 54 Raglan Street. By 1939 they were living at 7 Summer Road and William was an engineer’s apprentice.
A Second Engineer with the trawler Strathmaree, Surtees died on 28th of January 1944 at the age of 47.
Surtees was born at Mutford on 4 September 1897, a son of George William and Maria Ann Elizabeth Boon. He was baptised at Saint Andrew's Church, Mutford, on 21 September 1897. In 1901 his family lived at Hulver Road, Mutford. They were still living at Hulver Road in 1911 when Surtess worked as a gardener.
During World War One Surtees' father died while serving with the Royal Naval Reserve.

Kenneth was born at Norwich in 1923, a son of Sydney Frank and Dorothy Olive Cornwell. Kenneth’s father was a teacher at Church Road Boys’ School before working at Roman Hill Senior Boys’ School. By 1939 his family were living at 36 Kirkley Park Road.
A Chief Engineman with H.M. Trawler Hayburn Wyke. Harry died on 2nd of January 1945 at the age of 46.
Harry was born at Lowestoft on 3 August 1897 (hence was actually 48 when he died), a son of John Edward James and Mary Anne Sharman. Between 1901 and 1911 Harry's family lived at 4 Wilde's Score, Lowestoft, and the 1911 Census shows Harry working as a Telegraph Boy.
A Lieutenant attached to the 12th Battalion Devonshire Regiment (Airborne), Frederick died on 7th of January 1945 at the age of 29.
Frederick was born at Walthamstow on 9 March 1915, a son of George and Edith Alice Cooke. He was baptised at Hermon Hill, South Woodford, on 16 January 1916. In 1939 his family lived at 83 Station Road, Chingford, and Frederick was a student. The 1939 register shows that Frederick was a member of the A.R.P.

A Corporal with Derby Depot, Charles died on 16th of January 1945 at the age of 38.
Charles was born at Bramdean, Hampshire, on 9 October 1906, a son of Edward and Margret Underwood. He was baptised at Bramdean Parish Church on 14 October 1906 and his family live at Bramdean Common. In 1911 his family lived at West Meon, near Petersfield, and by 1921 they were living at Whitewood Cottages, Herriard, and Charles worked as a garden boy at Herriard Park.
Charles married Annie Elizabeth Scarff in 1926, this was registered in the Alton district. Annie was born at Lowestoft.

George was born at Marylebone, London, on 26 November 1913, a son of Violet Lake. He was baptised at Saint Mark’s Church, Marylebone Road (Queen Charlotte’s Hospital) Church, London, on 4 December 1913. In 1921 George lived with his grandparents Eben Watts and Jane Lake at Rivetts Loke, Blundeston.
A Signalman, with the Signal Section 21 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Felix died on 19th of January 1945 aged 34.
Felix was born at Lowestoft on 7 July 1910, a son of James George and Amelia Bond Gwilliam. In 1921 his family lived at Harbour House, Lowestoft, as his father was the Harbour Master.
In 1934 Felix married Hilda Florence Setterfield, this was registered in the Mutford district. In 1939 they lived at 48 Salisbury Road and Felix was a wholesale grocery and provision salesman. After the war Hilda lived at Limes Cottage, Forncett Saint Peter, Norfolk.
A Lance Corporal with No 44 (Royal Marine) Commando, Frank died on 22nd of January 1945 aged 24.
Frank was born at Lowestoft on 23 June 1920, a son of Frank and May Violet Foot. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 16 July 1920 and his family lived at 194 Denmark Road. By 1939 they were living at The Elms, Carlton Road, and Frank was a fitter’s labourer.
In 1941 Frank married Gladys Irene Hitter, this was registered in the Lothingland district. Gladys remarried in 1947.

Thomas was born at Crayford, Kent, on 10 February 1925, a son of Frank Charles and Winifred Bruin. He was baptised at Saint Paulinus Chapel, Crayford, on 1 March 1925. In 1939 his family lived at 48 Mill Place, Crayford.
Thomas married Pamela Dorothy Rose Houghton at Lowestoft in 1944. She lived at 5 Turner's Cottages, Saint John's Road, Lowestoft. Pamela remarried in 1946.

John was born at Lowestoft on 8 May 1921, a son of John Pater Turner and Hilda Beatrice Turner. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 4 June 1921, and his grandparents, Alfred J. and Elizabeth M. Turner, lived at Walmer House, London Road South.
John, and his parents, lived at 73 Saint George’s Road, Newbury, Berkshire, in 1921, and by 1939 their home was at 32 Howard Road, Newbury, and John was a first year medical student.

John was born at Lowestoft on 14 June 1921, a son of John Herbert and Ellen Gertrude Baker. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 1 July 1921 and his family lived at 7 Union Place and this was still their address in 1939.
From late 1942 until the end of the war the anti-submarine trawler Coventry City was based in South Africa. On 29 January 1945 John was found drowned in the harbour at Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Formerly a Private with the Royal Pioneer Corps, George died on 21 January 1947, aged 45.
George was born at Lound in 1901, a son of George and Eleanor Eliza Bloss. He was baptised at Saint John the Baptist Church, Lound, on 29 September 1901. In 1911 they lived at Pond Farm Cottage, Herringfleet.
By 1921 George was serving with 29 Battery Royal Garrison Artillery in Germany. Both of George’s parents died in the 1920s and, by 1939, his brother Thomas lived at Park Hill Fram, Oulton.
