A Deck hand with HM Drifter Datum, Charles William died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 20. Charles was born on 5 March 1896, a son of Samuel George and Lucy Ann Brady. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 1 April 1896, and his family lived at 5 Wesley Street, and this was still their home in 1901. By 1911 they were living at 1 Bishop’s Building, Mariners Street. Later Charles’ family lived at 21 Chapel Street. Charles joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 11 January 1915 and from 16 January 1915 he served on the trawler Datum. Lost Street, Pic recently added
A Corporal with the 2nd Battalion, Louis died on 12th of October 1916 at the age of 26. Louis was born at Lowestoft on 25 February 1890, a son of Frances Elizabth Spurgeon. In 1891 he lived with his mother and brother at 7 Gun Lane, where his mother was housekeeper for William Andrews, and this was still their home in 1901. Louis was a pupil at Christ Church School and became a pupil at Saint Margaret’s School on 27 April 1896. In 1911 Louis’ family were still at 7 Gun Lane, and Louis worked as a wood sawyer at a saw mill. Later his mother lived at 17 Chapel Street, Lowestoft. Lost Street
An Engineman with H.M. Drifter Michaelmas Daisy, George died on 26th of November 1916 at the age of 35. George was born at Lowestoft on 9 December 1880, a son of Robert and Johanna Knights. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 2 January 1881. In 1881 his family lived at 34 Crown Street. By 1891 they were living at 9 Strand Cottages, Anguish Street. A Private with 7th Bn., Charles died on 14th of November 1916 at the age of 19. Charles was born at Norwich on 15 February 1897, a son of Henry William (Harry) and Sarah (Sally) Fitt. He was baptised at Saint James with Pockthorpe Church, Norwich, on 25 March 1897 and his family lived at 20 Cavalry Street, Norwich. In 1901 his family lived at 173 Sprowston Road, Norwich. By 1911 they were living at 3 Eden Street, Lowestoft, and Charles was an apprentice upholsterer. Later his parents lived at Eden Villa, 2 Eden Street, Lowestoft.Lost Street
A Marine with H.M.S. Prince of Wales, George died on 13th of May 1943 aged 26. George was born at Lowestoft on 24 January 1917, a son of Ernest Alexander and Constance Dalley. In 1921 his family lived at 4 Anguish Street. By 1943 their home was at Rosalyn, 12 Poplar Road, Carlton Colville. In 1939 George was working as a butcher’s assistant, with Harry Butler a butcher and sausage manufacturer, and living at 48 Cedars Road, Edmonton, London. A Second Lieutenant attached to the 2nd Battalion; Frederick died on 27th of May 1918 aged 26.Frederick was born at Norwich in 1892, a son of Frederick George and Henrietta Havers. In 1901 his family lived at 16 Angle Row Catton, Norwich, and in 1911 at 18 Traverse Street, Norwich, and Frederick was a house painter. A Private with 7th Battalion Suffolk Regiment, Arthur died on 23rd of March 1918 at the age of 25. Arthur was born at Lowestoft in 1893, a son of William Thomas and Mary Ann Hagg. In 1901 his family lived at Anguish Street. In 1911 their address was 21 Anguish Street and Arthur was a baker’s assistant. Lost Street
An Apprentice with S.S. Arndale (Whitby), George died on 10th of June 1915 at the age of 17. George was born at Lowestoft in 1898, a son of James and Mary Cleveland. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 24 June 1898 and his family lived at Laundry Lane. They were still living at Laundry Lane in 1901. By 1911 George's father had died and his mother lived at 4 Strand Street, Lowestoft. Later she lived at 3 Spurgeon Street, Lowestoft.Lost Street
Formerly a Private with the 22nd Battalion, Harry died on 1st of July 1918 at the age of 38. Harry was born at Lowestoft on 29 October 1880, a son of William and Louisa Easey. In 1881 his family lived at 2 Mills Road, Lowestoft. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 27 December 1885, and his family lived at 48 Bevan Street. By 1891 Harry's father had died and his mother was married to Henry West. His family was now living at 5 Patterson Street, Winlaton, County Durham. A Cook with sailing trawler Chrysolite (Lowestoft), William died on 4th of July 1917 at the age of 15. William was born at Lowestoft on 11 January 1902, a son of Arthur and Johanna Collins. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 5 February 1902 and his family lived at 11 Factory Street. In 1911 their home was at 37 Beckham Road. Later Johanna lived at 23 Wilde Street, Lowestoft. She remarried in 1920. On 4 July 1917 the Chrysolite was fishing four nautical miles off Haisbro Lightship. The trawler struck a mine and sank.
