A Skipper on Sailing Trawler Trevone. James died on 29th January 1917 at the age of 44. James was born at Weybread, Suffolk, in 1874, a son of Charles and Elizabeth Rodwell. He was baptised at Saint Andrew's Church, Weybread, on 10 May 1874. In 1881 his family lived at 5 Oulton Road, Oulton, and by 1891 they were living at Gordon Terrace, Beccles Road, Carlton Colville, and John worked as a shepherd's boy. In 1901 they lived at Oulton Street and by 1911 Charles' mother had died and his father lived at 15 Marsh Road, Oulton Broad.  bestpic
Eric Harper
A Sergeant (Observer) with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Eric died on 14th January 1942 aged 19. Eric was born at Lowestoft on 2 May 1922, a son of William and Hilda Maud Harper. In 1939 his family lived at 56 Kent Road and Eric was a journalist. Eric moved to Tottenham, London. He joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve between September 1939 and June 1940. Alan Jack Sturman
A Lance Corporal with the 4th Battalion, Alan died on 12th of September 1943 aged 26. Alan was born at Oulton on 11 July 1917, a son of John R. and Mary Ann Sturman. In 1921 his family lived at Mill Road Mutford, and this was still their address in 1939 when Alan worked as a grocer’s assistant. A Second Engineer with the trawler Strathmaree, Surtees died on 28th of January 1944 at the age of 47. Surtees was born at Mutford on 4 September 1897, a son of  George William and Maria Ann Elizabeth Boon. He was baptised at Saint Andrew's Church, Mutford, on 21 September 1897. In 1901 his family lived at Hulver Road, Mutford. They were still living at Hulver Road in 1911 when Surtess worked as a gardener. During World War One Surtees' father died while serving with the Royal Naval Reserve.  bestpic

A Private with 9th Battalion, John died on 8th of August 1916 at the age of 32. John was born at Lowestoft on 7 September 1884, a son of George William and Emily Martha Hook. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 5 October 1884. In 1891 his family lived at 39 Albert Street. John attended Cunningham School and, from 23 March 1891, was a pupil at Saint Margaret’s School. John’s mother died in 1896. Frederick Ernest Horne
A Private with the Royal Army Medical Corps, Frederick died on 20th of June 1942 aged 23.Frederick was born at 6 Payne Street, South Lowestoft, on 29 March 1919, a son of Frederick James and Ethel Maud Horne. In 1921 his family lived at 4 Rant Score. Before the Second World War Frederick worked for the Co-operative Wholesale Society and the 1939 Register shows him as an analytical chemist as a food factory. In 1939 he lived with his widowed mother at 20 Lorne Park Road and later his mother lived at 61 Durban Road. bestpic
Clifford Frederick Cone
A Private with 35th Company, Clifford died on 14th of July 1917 at the age of 28.  Clifford was born at Lowestoft on 22nd November 1887, a son of Arthur and Esther Annie Cone. Clifford was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 1st January 1888.In 1891 his family lived at 19 Union Road, Lowestoft. By 1901 Clifford, and his brother Thomas, were lodging at Lound. The 1911 Census shows them lodging with Sarah Youngs at Lound and Clifford worked as a 'estate' carpenter and he probably worked on the Somerleyton Estate. bestpic

A Civilian, Cyril died on 11th of September 1940, aged 25. Cyril was a Lightshipman on the Trinity House Light Vessel at South Goodwin.Cyril was born on 7 December 1914, a son of Cyril and Madeline Catchpole. Cyril was baptised at Saint Edmund's Church, Kessingland, on 4 July 1915 and at that time his family were living at Fern Cottage, Kessingland. Cyril's father served with the Royal Naval Reserve during the First World War.The 1939 Register shows Cyril's address as Davies Cottages, Kessingland Beach, Lowestoft, and shows that he worked as a seaman.  bestpic
Sir James Domville
A Lieutenant with the Royal Navy (Retired List), Sir James died on 13th of September 1919 at the age of 29. James was born at Edinburgh on 10 December 1889, a son of Rear Admiral Sir William Cecil H. and Lady Anne Josephine Moselle Domville. Because of his hereditary title he was known as Sir James Domville. In 1891 James was staying at his uncle’s home, Linden Hall, Morpeth, Northumberland. In 1901 James lived with his family at The Chantry, Sproughton, near Ipswich.      bestpic
