A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Arthur died between 10 May and 26 June 1940, aged 27. Arthur was born at Pakefield in 1913, a son of Jack and Sarah Florence Reeve. In 1921 his family lived at 2 Wellington Road, Pakefield. By 1939 his widowed mother lived at 22 Edgerton Road. the100, Dunkirk

George Sidney Bloss

Formerly a Private with the Royal Pioneer Corps, George died on 21 January 1947, aged 45.George was born at Lound in 1901, a son of George and Eleanor Eliza Bloss. He was baptised at Saint John the Baptist Church, Lound, on 29 September 1901. In 1911 they lived at Pond Farm Cottage, Herringfleet. By 1921 George was serving with 29 Battery Royal Garrison Artillery in Germany. Frederick William Rushmore

A Seaman Cook, with H. M. Trawler Argyllshire. Frederick died on 1st June 1940 at the age of 19.Frederick was born at Pakefield on 3 April 1921, a son of William Warford and Jessie Jean Rushmore. In 1921 his family lived at 37 Pakefield Street, Pakefield, and by 1939 they were living at 17 Prospect Place, Lowestoft. Dunkirk

Arthur Sidney Goddard

A Stoker with H.M.S. Invincible, Arthur died on 31st of May 1916 at the age of 22. Arthur was born at Barnby on 18 March 1894, a son of John and Florence Mary Goddard. He was baptised at Saint Edmunds Church, Kessingland, on 21 November 1897. In 1901 his family lived at Beach Road, Kessingland, ‘near the church.’ By 1911 they were living at 5 Surrey Place, Field Lane, Kessingland, and Arthur was a fisherman.In 1912, after committing a series of offences, Arthur was sentenced to two years detention at a borstal (see The Diss Express 10 January 1913, page 8). Robert Benjamin Weston

A Stoker 1st Class with H.M.S. Queen Mary, Robert died on 31st of May 1916 at the age of 20.Robert was born at Smallborough, near North Walsham, Norfolk, on 7 June 1894, a son of Benjamin and Naomi Weston. In 1901 his family lived at Horning Row, Worstead, Norfolk. By 1911 they were living at Oxpits Cottages, Reedham, Norfolk. Later his parents lived at Hemblington and his sister, Louise, lived at Lound Road, Blundeston. Robert joined the Royal Navy, as a Stoker 2nd Class, on 2 December 1912. Bruce Arthur Waters

A Lance Corporal with the 2nd Battalion, Bruce died on 26th of May 1940 aged 27. Bruce was born at Lowestoft in 1913, a son of William Arthur and Eliza Mary Waters. In 1921 his family lived at 7 Lorne Road, and this was still their home in 1939. Dunkirk

Albert Victor Jenkerson

A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Albert died on 24th of May 1940 aged 21. Albert was born at Lowestoft on 24 February 1919, a son of son of Edward John and Florence Beatrice Jenkerson. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 20 March 1919 and his family lived at 17 Beresford Road and this was still thier home in 1921. By 1939 his family were living at 4 Raglan Street and Albert worked as a fitter’s mate – hot water pipes. It seems that Albert joined the Army soon after the 1939 Register was taken. Dunkirk

Harry William Robert Hook

A Petty Officer Stoker with H.M.S. Gossamer, Harry died on 29th of May 1940 aged 33.Harry was born at Lowestoft on 20 October 1907, a son of William Robert and Florence Mary Hook. In 1911 his family lived at 32 Laundry Lane, and by 1921 their home was at 177 Rotterdam Road, and later they lived at 117 Rotterdam Road. Dunkirk

Eric Victor Wright

A Corporal with the 2nd Battalion, Eric died on 29th of May 1940 aged 20. Eric was born at Lowestoft on 23 July 1919, a son of Sidney William and Gladys Muriel Wright. Eric was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 7 August 1919 and his family lived at 41 Park Road which was still their home in 1921. Eric’s mother died in 1928, and his father remarried. In 1939 his family lived at 15 Reeve Street. Le Paradis Massacre

George Francis Thompson

A Corporal with 1st Battalion, George died on 25th of May 1940 aged 26. George was born at Lowestoft on 12 March 1914, a son of Harry and Georgeanna Thompson. He was baptised at Christ Church, Lowestoft, on 10 May 1914 and his family lived at 112 Carlton Road and this was still their home in 1921. By 1939 his family were living at 98 Blackheath Road, Kirkley.George served with the Suffolk Regiment as part of the British Expeditionary Force that went to France in late 1939. His battalion was part of the 3rd Division commanded by Major-General Bernard Montgomery. Dunkirk, bestpic
