Thomas Price

A Lance Corporal with the 8th Battalion, Thomas died on 22nd of December 1944 aged 27. 

Thomas was born at Hollinwood, Oldham, Lancashire, in 1917, a son of Thomas and Annie Price. In 1921 his family lived at 5 Burder Street, Oldham.  

In late 1941 Thomas married Audrey Gladys Hammond, this was registered in the Lothingland district. Audrey’s family lived at 9 Essex Road.

Thomas enlisted in the Lancashire Fusiliers and was later transferred to The Royal Scots. He served in north-west Europe with the 8th Battalion.

The 8th Battalion landed at Normandy on 16 June 1944. During 22 December the battalion took over positions north of Blerick and came under mortar and shell-fire throughout the day. Thomas was killed in action. 
Thomas was buried at Maasbree, to the west of Blerick, and in 1946 was reburied at Vernay. 
Thomas’ father-in-law, Maurice Hammond, died in 1940 in the loss of the trawler Lord Haldane.
