William was born at Ellough in October 1861, a son of Charles and Sarah Ann Blowers. In 1871 his family lived at Weston, Suffolk. In 1881 they were living at Green Lane, Weston, and William worked as a fisherman.

Henry Collins

Henry was born at Kirkley on 28 September 1889, a son of James and Mary Collins. In 1891 his family lived at 20 Grosvenor Road. By 1901 Henry’s father had died and his family were resident at the Lothingland Union Workhouse.
In 1909 Henry married Violet Eva Cook at Lowestoft. By 1914 they were living at 82 Alexandra Road and later Violet lived at 114 Worthing Road.
Henry was awarded his certificate of competency as a skipper in 1913.

Frank Archibald Boore
A Seaman with H.M. Drifter Star of Buchan., Frank died on 20th of October 1915 at the age of 25.
Frank was born at Lowestoft on 28 February 1890, a son of Edgar and Elizabeth Boore. In 1891 his family lived at 103 Bevan Street, Lowestoft, and this was still their home in 1914.
Frank worked at sea before the First World War.
On 17 August 1913 Frank married Ellen Grummit, at Saint John’s Church, Lowestoft.
Frank joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 8 December 1914. From 14 December 1914 he served on the trawler Star of Buchan.
Percy Edward Solomon
A Seaman with H.M. Drifter Star of Buchan., Percy died on 20th of October 1915 at the age of 20.
Percy was born at Carlton Colville on 18 June 1895, a son of Albert and Alice Solomon.
He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Carlton Colville, on 29 September 1895, and his family lived at Carlton Colville.
In 1901 his family lived ‘near Low Farm’ Calton Colville. By 1911 they were living at Highlands Farm, Mutford.
Percy joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 12 December 1914. From 14 December 1914 he served on the trawler Star of Buchan.

Harold was born at Kessingland on 26 July 1889, a son of Francis George and Selina Davis. He was baptised at Saint Edmund’s Church, Kessingland, on 24 November 1889. A note in the baptism register records that Harold ‘Drowned Dardanelles in the Great War.’ In 1891 his family lived at Beach Road, Kessingland, and this was still their address in 1901. By 1911 they were living at The Drive, Belvedere Place, Kessingland, and Harold was a fisherman.

Charles was born at Lowestoft on 11 September 1883, a son of Charles and Harriet Sansom. He was baptised at Saint John's Church on 15 May 1885 and his family lived at West Raglan Street. In 1891 his family lived at 51 West Raglan Street, and by 1901 at 16 Stanford Street.

He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 18 August 1897, and his family lived at 34 Haward Street, Lowestoft. In 1901 his family lived at 1 Florence Place, Saint John’s Road, Lowestoft. By 1911 they were living at Oulton Road, and by 1915 at 3 Oulton Street, Lowestoft.

Albert was born at Lowestoft on 8 October 1885, a son of William and Eleanor Elizabeth Allen. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church on 7 March 1886. Note that navy records give his date of birth as 6 October 1886. In 1891 his family lived at 23 Reeve Street and by 1901 at 7 Whapload Road.

Charles was born at Raveningham, Norfolk, on 29 October 1888, a son of George R. and Mary Ann (Polly) Barber. In 1891 his family lived at Bungay Road, Stockton, near Loddon. By 1901 they were living at 60 Pakefield Street, Kirkley, and this was still their home in 1911.

Thomas was born at Lowestoft in 1871, a son of Thomas Henry and Mary Ann Dowsing. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 7 May 1871. In 1881 his family lived at Wright's Cottages, 1, Beccles Road, Lowestoft. By 1893 his family was living at 3 Ipswich Road, Lowestoft, and Thomas worked as a plumber.

Chester was born at Kessingland on 8 July 1905, a son of Alexander John and Jane Elizabeth Thompson. In 1911 his family lived at 3 Lakenham Cottages, Beach Street, Pakefield, and, by 1921 they were living at 10 Lovewell Road and this was still the family home in 1939.

An Engineman with H.M. Drifter Wishful, Walter died on 22nd of July 1916 at the age of 50.
Walter was born at Aldringham, near Leiston on 16 October 1865. A son of James and Harriett Bicker. In 1871 his family lived at Paradise Place, Leiston, and in 1881 at Aldringham.
On 23 October 1902 Walter married Laura Amelia Willimott at Saint Mary’s Church, Blundeston. By 1906 they were living at Bicker of 4 Princes Road, Lowestoft. In 1911 Walter was the engineer on a steam drifter and he was being treated at the West Cornwall Infirmary, Penzance.

Harry was born at Barnby on 12 June 1906, a son of Dick Alfred and Louisa Jane Lee. In 1911 they lived at Back Lane, Barnby, and this was still their address in 1921 when Harry was a dairy man for A. Barwood at Mutford. In 1939 Harry’s parents lived at Ebenezer Cottage, Mill Lane, Barnby.

Thomas, also known as Tom, was born at Lowestoft on 28 April 1876, a son of William and Mary Ann Crisp. In 1881 his family lived at 3 Rant Score East and by 1891 at 17 Seago Street.
On 2 June 1895 Thomas married Harriet Elizabeth Alp at Saint Margaret’s Church. Thomas was a trawlerman and they both gave their address as 4 fir Lane. By 1901 they were living near Holly Farm, on Staithe Road, Burgh St. Peter, and Thomas was the mate on a fishing smack.

Leonard Ralph Mummery
A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler Agile, Leonard died on 13th of May 1917 at the age of 36.
Leonard was born at Lowestoft on 20 April 1881, a son of Edward Keys and Sophia Mummery. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church, Lowestoft, on 17 February 1882 and his family lived at Surrey Street. In 1891 his family’s address was 10 Surrey Street and in 1901 their address was Southampton House, Surrey Street North, and Leonard worked as a tailor’s cutter. By 1911 they were living at 26 Surrey Street and Leonard worked as a tailor’s assistant.

Ambrose was born at Bermondsey, London, on 6 March 1876, a son of Joseph and Sarah Rampling. By 1881 Ambrose’ father had died and his family were living at Morton Road, Kirkley. By 1891 Ambrose’ mother had married Thomas Masterson and the family lived at Morton Cottage, Morton Road, and Ambrose was an apprentice shoemaker. Later his mother lived at 1 Short Street, Kirkley.

Arthur was born at Hedenham, Norfolk, on 13 June 1899, a son of Charles and Eliza Spink. He was baptised at Hedenham on 24 September 1899. In 1901they lived at a cottage at Station Road, Tivetshall Saint Margaret, Norfolk. By 1907 Arthur’s mother had died and his father had married Harriet Hext. In 1911 they lived at Geldeston Road, Gillingham. Later his parents lived at Holy Farm Lane Mutford.

Jacob was born at Peckham, London, on 9 June 1884, a son of Thomas and Eliza Stratford. He was baptised at Camden Church, Peckham Road, Camberwell, on 12 October 1884, and his family lived at 2 Lisford Street. In 1891 his family lived at 2 Caln Street, Camberwell. Arthur attended Cator Street School and between 18 November 1893 and 16 December 1897 he attended Arthur Street School: about this time his family lived at 4 Fenham Road.

Samuel was born at Lowestoft on 9 January 1898, a son of Samuel Robert and Maria Burwood. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 6 February 1898 and his family lived at 281 Raglan Street. Later his family would live at 299 Raglan Street, Lowestoft.

Frank was born at Lowestoft on 18 August 1890, a son of Thomas Bowler and Annie Wright. In 1891 his family lived at 113 Bevan Street. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 25 May 1892. By 1911 his mother had died and his father lived at 57 Essex Road.
In 1911 Frank was a deck hand on the trawler may, LT 573, at Padstow.
H.M. Trawler Boy Roy
George Brinded
An Engineman with H.M. Trawler Boy Roy, George died on 9th of May 1916 at the age of 24.
George was born at Norwich on 12 December 1891, a son of William and Harriet Brinded. In 1901 his family lived at 149 Saint Margaret’s Road, Lowestoft, and by 1911 they lived at 74 Saint Margarets Road, and George worked as an engine cleaner with the Great Eastern Railway.
George joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 25 October 1915 and served on the trawler Boy Roy. An article in the East Anglian Daily Times, 11 May 1916, page 3, explains what happened to George:.

William was born at Great Yarmouth on 6 January 1892, a son of William and Mary Ann Gates. He was baptised at Saint Nicholas’ Church, Great Yarmouth, on 13 February 1901 and his family lived at number 16 Row 12, and his parents were still at that address in 1911.

Robert was born at Blaxhall, Suffolk, on 10 March 1856, a son of Henry and Emma Bailey. By 1861 Robert’s father had died and his family lived at Church Road, Blaxhall. In 1871 they lived at Church Lane, Blaxhall, and Robert was an agricultural labourer.

William was born at Lowestoft on 4 June 1884 a son of Arthur and Alice Colby. In 1891 his family lived at 28 Jacob’s Street. In 1901 William was the cook on the trawler United, LT 192, at Lowestoft, and his family lived at 58 Stanford Street. By 1911 they were living at 98 Haward Street. By 1916 William was living at 10 Raglan Street.
Archibald Matthias Radmore

Archibald was born at Milford Haven on 7 August 1875, a son of George and Louisa Catherine Radmore. He was baptised at Hubberston on 3 July 1877. In 1881 his family lived at Hibernia, Point Street, Hubberston, Milford Haven.
In 1900 Archibald married Jane Maria Knight, this was registered in the Haverfordwest district.
In 1908 Archibald was awarded his certificate of competency as a Skipper.

John was born at Lowestoft on 17 January 1885, a son of Aldous Ward and Sarah Elizabeth Saunders. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 25 February 1885, and his family lived at Anguish Street. By 1901 his family was living at 2 Wellington Cottages and in 1911 they lived at 2 Herring Fishery Score. It is possible that in 1901 John was working on the trawler Smiling Morn, LT 768.

Percival was born at Lowestoft on 28 June 1882, a son of Edward Charles and Elizabeth Martha Stace. In 1891 his family lived at 7 Alexandra Road and by 1901 they were living at 223 London Road and Percival was a domestic gardener.
On 8 March 1914 Percival married Caroline Mary Gilson at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley. Percival was a groom and they both lived at Kirkley. By 1916 they were living at 5 Whitney Road, Pakefield, and later Caroline lived at 65 Carlton Road, Pakefield.

Albert was born at Pakefield on 15 March 1896, a son of John Lambert and Ellen Ward. From 17 April 1899 Albert attended Cunningham School. In 1901 his family lived at Pakefield Street, Pakefield. By 1907 his family were living at 126 Morton Road, Lowestoft. In 1911 Albert was an errand boy at a confectioners. Later his parents lived at 4 Wycombe Terrace, Saint Georges Road, Lowestoft.

Matthew was born at Lowestoft on 2 April 1888, a son of Ezer and Eliza Burwood Coleman. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 25 April 1888, and his family lived at 27 Goldsmith's Buildings. By 1891 his family lived at 27 Spurgeon's Street, and in 1901 they lived at 5 Spurgeon's Score.

Edward was born at Wangford in on 31 October 1877, a son of and Emily Garrod. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Wangford, on 24 March 1877. In 1881 Edward lived with his maternal grandparents, William and Johanna Garrod, at Wangford Hill, Wangford. By 1891 his family lived at Bishops Buildings, Mariners Street, Lowestoft, and Edward was a rope twine spinner.

An Engineman with H.M. Trawler Columbia., Arthur died on 1st of May 1915 at the age of 23.
Arthur was born at Pakefield on 10 September 1892, a son of Frederick and Florence Adeline Lilian Stannard. He was baptised at All Saints' Church, Pakefield, on 9 October 1892. Arthur attended Cunningham Infant School from 10 September 1895 and Cunningham Mixed School from 1 June 1899. In 1901 his family lived at 7 Bourne Terrace, Pakefield. By 1914 they were living at 12 Prospect Place, Pakefield. Later Arthur's parents lived at 52 Florence Road, Pakefield.

Randal was born at Pakefield on 7 October 1893, a son of James F. and Gertrude Adams. In 1901 his family lived at 12 Pakefield Street. By 1911 they were living at 55 Kimberley Road and Randal was a fisherman. In 1915 they were still living at 55 Kimberley Road and later the family home was at 2 Blackheath Road, Kirkley.
Randal joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 25 August 1915. He served on the trawler Columsin.
Randal died at Norwich Isolation Hospital from cerebro-spinal meningitis.

Stanley Llewellyn Oakes
A Seaman with H.M. Trawler Commandant, Stanley died on 2nd of April 1916 at the age of 22.
Stanley was born at Corton on 7 October 1893, a son of Joseph and Jane Julia Isadore Oakes. In 1901 his family lived at Mill Lane, Corton. Later his parents lived at Gayes Nurseries, 5 Heath Road, Oulton Broad.
On 31 March 1915 Stanley married Lily May Woods at Saint Peter’s Church, Carlton Colville. Stanley was serving with the Royal Naval Reserve and stated that his home was at Carlton Colville, Lily gave her address as Oulton. Later lily lived at 4 Rock Road Rock Estate, Oulton.

Ernest was born at Lowestoft on 28 May 1892, a son of Samuel Benjamin Wicks and Eleanor Jane Breeze. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 17 July 1892 and his family lived at 57 Queens Road, and this was still their address in 1901. By 1911 they were living at 18 Essex Road.
