CWGC

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is an intergovernmental organisation of six independent member states whose principal function is to mark, record and maintain the graves and places of commemoration of Commonwealth of Nations military service members who died in the two World Wars.

A Private with the 1st Battalion, Horace died on 29th of June 1917 at the age of 20. Horace was born at Wandsworth, London, on 8 October 1896, a son of Charles John and Louisa Sarah Horne. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Vauxhall, London, on 22 November 1898, and his family lived at 5 South Lambeth Road. In 1901 they lived at 208 Earlsfield Road, Wandsworth.  CWGC
Arthur Reeve Jarvis
A Petty Officer 1st Class with H.M.S. Vanguard, Arthur died on 9th of July 1917 at the age of 40. Arthur was born at Ipswich on 10 February 1876, a son of Samuel John and Maria Jarvis. Note, some records give his year of birth as 1878, but his birth was registered in 1876. By 1881 Arthur’s father had died and his mother married William Keeble, and the family lived at California, Wickham Market, Suffolk, and this was still their address in 1901.  CWGC
A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter John Mitchell, Charles died on 8th of February 1915 at the age of 16.Charles was born at Oulton Broad on 1 May 1898, a son of George and Jane Turrell. In 1901 his family lived at 33 Victoria Road, Carlton Colville. By 1911 they were living at 3 Lavinia Terrace, Commodore Road, Oulton Broad, and later their address was 112 Commodore Road.Charles joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 6 February 1915 and served on the drifter John Mitchell.  CWGC
A Private with the 2/8th Battalion, Robert died on 19th of August 1917 at the age of 34.Robert was born at Oulton Broad on 30 September 1883, a son of James and Mary Ann Hines. He was baptised at Saint Michael’s Church, Oulton, on 24 February 1884. In 1891 his family lived at Clyde Cottage, Beccles Road, Oulton, and this was still their home in 1901 when Robert worked as a grocer’s assistant. Later his parents lived at Victoria Road, Oulton.  CWGC

A Private with the 11th Battalion, Henry died on 9th of April 1918 at the age of 24.  CWGC
A Private with the 7th Battalion, William died on 28th of April 1917 at the age of 19. William was born at Lowestoft in 1897, a son of Henry Herbert and Katherine Stebbings. In 1901 his family lived at 160 Clapham Road, but the 1901 Census shows William staying with his aunt, Ellen Stebbings, at 26 Ferry Lane, Gorleston. In 1911 his family lived at 1 Holly Road, Oulton Broad, and William worked as a house painter, probably with his father.  CWGC
Stanley Llewellyn Oakes
A Seaman with H.M. Trawler Commandant, Stanley died on 2nd of April 1916 at the age of 22. Stanley was born at Corton on 7 October 1893, a son of Joseph and Jane Julia Isadore Oakes. In 1901 his family lived at Mill Lane, Corton. Later his parents lived at Gayes Nurseries, 5 Heath Road, Oulton Broad. On 31 March 1915 Stanley married Lily May Woods at Saint Peter’s Church, Carlton Colville. Stanley was serving with the Royal Naval Reserve and stated that his home was at Carlton Colville, Lily gave her address as Oulton. Later lily lived at 4 Rock Road Rock Estate, Oulton. CWGC
