CWGC

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is an intergovernmental organisation of six independent member states whose principal function is to mark, record and maintain the graves and places of commemoration of Commonwealth of Nations military service members who died in the two World Wars.

A Company Quartermaster Sergeant with the 3rd Battalion, George died on 5th of June 1916 at the age of 62.George was born at Morley, Wymondham, Norfolk, in 1854. He is believed to have been a son of John and Mary Wade, but he has not been found in any birth or census records. George was working as a groom when he enlisted in the Army at Ipswich on 27 December 1876. He joined the Royal Artillery, service number 1518. George stated that he was nineteen years old. He served until 1 March 1879, when he was honourably discharged being unfit for further service.    CWGC
A Private with 1st Regiment, Charles died on 8th of April 1917 at the age of 30. Charles was born at Great Yarmouth on 8 July 1886, a son of Henry James and Isabel Elizabeth Lane. He was baptised at Gorleston, on 6 August 1886. In 1891 his family lived at The Star Hotel, Great Yarmouth, where is father was the proprietor. By 1901 his family were living at 66 Southtown Road, Gorleston, and Charles was a pupil at Beccles College. By 1911 Charles' father had died and his mother lived at The Hollies, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft.  CWGC
A Private with Middlesex Regiment posted to the 1/19th Battalion London Regiment, Alfred died on 1st of September 1918 at the age of 39. CWGC

A Private with 9th Bn., David died on 25th of September 1915 at the age of 20. David was born at South Burlingham in 1895, a son of Charles Roy and Alice Turner. In 1901 his family lived 'By Town Pits', South Burlingham. By 1911 they had moved to Kemp's Heath, Oulton, and David worked as a farm labourer. At some point his parents moved to 8 Meadow Cottages, Oulton, Lowestoft.David volunteered and enlisted in the Army at Lowestoft. he joined the Suffolk Regiment and arrived in France with the 9th Battalion on 31 August 1915.  CWGC
Arthur Jacob Wilson
A Private with 9th Bn., Arthur died on 25th of September 1915 at the age of 19. Arthur was born at Oulton in 1897, a son of Jacob and Jane Wilson. In 1901 his family lived at Woods Loke, Lowestoft. By 1911 they were living at 3 Sunshine Terrace, Marlborough Road, Oulton Broad, and Arthur was an apprentice coach builder. Arthur volunteered and enlisted in the Army at Lowestoft. he joined the Suffolk Regiment and arrived in France with the 9th Battalion on 31 August 1915.  CWGC
A Fitter Gunner with 354 Siege Battery, Jack died on 19th of October 1918 aged 20.John was born at Oulton in 1898, a son of Fred John and Minnie Florence Richardson. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 8 June 1898, and his family lived at Oulton. In 1901 his family lived with his grandparents, Robert and Mary Kemp, at Boat Yard House, Oulton. By 1911 they were living at 1 York Villas, Commodore Road, Oulton Broad, and John was a newsagent’s errand boy. This was still their home in 1916, when John was an engineering apprentice.  CWGC
Charles William Seeley
A Private with 11th Bn., Charles died on 3rd of October 1916 at the age of 21. Son of Cornelius William and Edith Seeley of The Lodge Waveney Hill Oulton Broad; Lowestoft Suffolk.  CWGC

A Private with the 7th Bn., Robert died on 13th of October 1915 at the age of 25. Robert was born at Carlton Colville on 22 September 1890, a son of Samuel Henry and Elizabeth Knights. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 21 December 1892, and his family lived at Kirkley.  CWGC
A Private with 3rd Bn., William died on 7th of November 1918 at the age of 22. William was born at Carlton Colville in 1896, a son of George and Elizabeth Read. In 1901 his family lived at Hillary Cottages, Main Road, Carlton Colville. In 1911 their home was at 3 Ormesby Villas, Victoria Road, Oulton Broad, and later they lived at 3 Olive Cottages, Carlton Colville. In 1911 William was at sea and on board the trawler Eclipse, LT 684, at Padstow. His father was the Skipper of the Eclipse.  CWGC
A Private with the 1/8th Battalion, John died on 15th of June 1918 at the age of 39. John was born at Oulton Broad in 1878, a son of John and Eliza Hines. He was baptised at Saint Michael’s Church, Oulton, on 2 March 1879. The 1881 Census shows John at Beccles Road with relatives Adam and Kezia Aggas. In 1891 John’s family lived at Church Road, Rock Estate, Oulton, and John was an agricultural labourer.   CWGC
