Douglas David Gooch

A Seaman with H.M. Trawler Recoil. Douglas died on 28th of September 1940 at the age of 22. 

Douglas was born at Lowestoft on 27 March 1918, a son of Robert Philip and Agnes Gooch. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, and his family lived at 23 Clemence Street and this was their address in 1939. The 1939 Register states that Douglas was 'Royal Naval Reserve - called up in September'.

Douglas was serving on the minesweeping trawler Recoil when it was mined and sank in the English Channel off Portland Bill. Seventeen crew, including Douglas, were killed.
