Hubert Stanley Small

Formerly a Royal Artillery Bombardier, attached to 661 Air Observation Post Squadron, Hubert died on 30th of December 1946 at the age of 26. 

Hubert was born at Lowestoft on 17 May 1920, a son of George Cornelius and Isobella Small. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 4 June 1920 and his family lived at 3 Harold Road, and this was still their home in 1939. Hubert enlisted in the Royal Artillery in 1938 and served with 55 (Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry) Anti-Tank regiment, a Territorial Army unit formed in 1938. In early 1940 Hubert married Phyllis Cleveland: this registered in the Lothingland district. Phyllis lived at 145 Kimberley Road Lowestoft. At some point Hubert was attached to 661 Air Observation Post Squadron of the Royal Air Force before he was discharged from the Army, medically unfit for further service, on 14 June 1944.
