Arthur William Brock

A Private with 53 Protection Company, Arthur died on 21st of March 1918 at the age of 51. 

Arthur was born at Kessingland on 15 September 1866, a son of William and Anna Maria Brock. He was baptised at Saint Edmund’s Church, Kessingland, on 25 November 1866. In 1871 his family lived ‘by the Turnpike’, Kessingland, and in 1881 at The Street, Kessingland.

In early 1891 Arthur married Anna Louisa Hitcham: this was registered in the Mutford district. In 1891 they lived at Mill Villa, London Road, Pakefield, and Arthur worked as a painter, possibly with his father and brother. In 1901 they lived at Beach Street, Pakefield, and Arthur was a house painter. By 1911 they were living at 1 Kendal Road, Kirkley, and Arthur was a house painter. 

Arthur enlisted in the Army at Lowestoft. He joined the Suffolk Regiment, service number 23309. Arthur did not serve overseas and in the summer of 1916, he was transferred to the Royal Defence Corps, service number 28798, and was posted to 53 Protection Company, part of the Eastern Command. 

Arthur died at the Military Hospital, Colchester, from carcinoma venbucult of the liver.
