A Lance Corporal with 9th Battalion, Frank died on 13th of September 1916 at the age of 20. Frank was born at Norton Subcourse, near Loddon, on 6 April 1896, a son of George Woods and Emma Esther Smith. In 1901 Frank’s mother died and Frank, and his siblings, were living at The Workhouse, Hales, Norfolk. In 1911 he was a boarder at Heckingham, Norfolk, and he worked as a domestic groom. Frank volunteered and enlisted in the Army at Lowestoft. He joined the Suffolk Regiment and was posted to the 9th Battalion. bestpic
A Lance Sergeant with the 1st Battalion, Stanley died on 14th of October 1944 aged 25. Stanley was born at Kirkley on 11 September 1919, a son of Thomas William and May Annie Cook. In 1921 his family lived at 192 The Avenue, and this was till their home in 1939 when Stanley was an apprentice printer.Stanley served in north-west Europe with the 1st Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment. A Private with 635th Mechanical Transport Company, Clifford died on 24th of October 1917 at the age of 30. Clifford was born at Lowestoft on 1 May 1887, a son of Frederick and Rosa Agnes Norton. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 20 May 1887 and his family lived at 3 Marsham Place. In 1891 his family lived at 58 Denmark Road, and by 1901 were living at 129 Bevan Street. A Marine with H.M.S. Prince of Wales, George died on 13th of May 1943 aged 26. George was born at Lowestoft on 24 January 1917, a son of Ernest Alexander and Constance Dalley. In 1921 his family lived at 4 Anguish Street. By 1943 their home was at Rosalyn, 12 Poplar Road, Carlton Colville. In 1939 George was working as a butcher’s assistant, with Harry Butler a butcher and sausage manufacturer, and living at 48 Cedars Road, Edmonton, London. A Civilian, Iris died on 17th of May 1941 at the age of 21. Iris was born on the 26th January 1920 and was a daughter of Albert and Ellen Maud Spurgeon of 36 Old Nelson Street Lowestoft Suffolk. The 1939 Register shows that Iris worked as a factory hand at a wire factory in Lowestoft and subsequently she went to work at Nuneaton, Warwickshire. 170541 raid, bestpic
A Corporal with 1st Battalion, George died on 25th of May 1940 aged 26. George was born at Lowestoft on 12 March 1914, a son of Harry and Georgeanna Thompson. He was baptised at Christ Church, Lowestoft, on 10 May 1914 and his family lived at 112 Carlton Road and this was still their home in 1921. By 1939 his family were living at 98 Blackheath Road, Kirkley.George served with the Suffolk Regiment as part of the British Expeditionary Force that went to France in late 1939. A Private with 7th Bn., Ambrose died on 14th of May 1917 at the age of 19. Ambrose was born at Blundeston in 1897, a son of Benjamin and Clara Knight. In 1901 his family lived at The Street, Blundeston, Lowestoft. By 1911 Ambrose's father had died and his family still lived at The Street, Blundeston, and Ambrose worked as a house boy-domestic. Ambrose enlisted in the Army at Lowestoft. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 16 October 1888. In 1891 his family lived at 20 Ontario Road and by 1901 at 35 East Street. By 1911 they were living at the Rear of Rant Score. He was a brother of Harold Robert Howlett of 22 Bevan Street, Lowestoft. Charles was born at Lowestoft on 14 November 1893, a son of Charles Henry and Emily Lavenia Fox of Blundeston Lowestoft. In 1901 his family lived at Flixton Road, Blundeston. By 1911 his parents were living at The Street, Blundeston. Charles was working as a farm labourer when he joined the Royal Navy, as a Boy 2nd Class, on 27 July 1909.
