George Stanley Burrows

A Lance Corporal with the 1st Battalion, George died on 12th of August 1943 aged 28. 

George was born in the Birmingham area in 1915, a son of Joseph and Florence Burrows. His father died in 1926 and in 1939 his mother lived at 33 Tiverton Road, Birmingham.  

George married Norma Roads in 1940, this was registered in the Medway district. Later Norma lived at Lowestoft, Suffolk.

On 12 August 1943 George’s battalion were involved in patrol work at position Milo, near Catania. At various points during the day the battalion were subjected to machine-gun, artillery and mortar fire. They made no progress but held their positions. George was killed in action. He was buried at map reference GR11/CB/26 and later was re-buried at Catania War Cemetery.
