Ernest was born at Lowestoft on 15 July 1898, a son of Thomas William and Edith Gooch. He was baptised at Saint Mark's Church, Oulton Broad, on 15 February 1899. In 1901 his family lived at 60 Victoria Road, Carlton Colville.

Frederick Harvey
A Second Hand with H.M. Drifter Frigate Bird, Frederick died on 11th of March 1918 at the age of 43.
Frederick was born at Lowestoft on 26 February 1875, a son of Richard and Maria Harvey. In 1881 his family lived at 57 Stevens Street.
In 1901 worked on the trawler Ethel May at Penzance. In 1907 he married Edith Louisa Dowding. By 1911 they were living at The Bungalow, Beach, Kessingland, and Frederick was a drifter fisherman. Later Edith lived at Belvedere Place, Kessingland.
Frederick was awarded his certificate of competency as a Second hand in 1910.

Alfred Amos Brown
A Second Hand with H.M. Drifter George V, Alfred died on 3rd June of 1917 at the age of 34.
Alfred was born at Sotterley, on 18 August 1882, a son of Amos and Ellen Brown. In 1891 his family were living at 2 Kiln Road, Sotterly, but by 1901 they had moved to London Road, Kessingland, and Alfred had begun work as a fisherman.

George was born at Kessingland on 4 July 1878, a son of George and Ellen Bunn. He was baptised at Saint Edmund’s Church, Kessingland, on 28 July 1878. In 1891 his family lived at Market Place, Kessingland, and George was a general labourer. In 1901 their address was Old Market, Kessingland, and George was a fisherman. In 1911 their address was Market Place, Kessingland, and George was a drift fishing engine driver.

Leonard was born at Lowestoft on 1 May 1889, a son of Benjamin William and Jane Elizabeth Peek. Leonard was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 22 May 1889. His family lived at 2 Tethey Place, West Raglan Street. In 1891 their address was 63 West Raglan Street. In 1901 his family lived at 130 Saint Leonard's Road, Kirkley, and by 1911 at 22 Beaconsfield Road.

Walter was born at Hopton on 4 December 1883, a son of Henry and Anna Darkins. In 1891 his family lived at The Street, Lound.
In 1901 Walter was the cook on the trawler Content, LT 146, at Penzance.

Francis William Beamish
A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Gleaner of the Sea, Francis died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 22.
Francis was born at Carlton Colville on 9th November 1893, a son of William and Jessie Beamish of 186 The Avenue Lowestoft Suffolk.
Francis, like his father, was a fisherman. He joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 11th January 1915 and served on board the drifter 'Gleaner of the Sea'.
Lewis Button
An Engineman, Lewis died on 26th October 1916 at the age of 21.
Lewis was born at Hulver on 20th March 1895, a son of Charles and Laura Button. In 1911 Lewis lived with his parents at The Street, Hulver, and Lewis was a gardener.
Lewis married Lilian Wincup at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 24th August 1914. At that time Lewis was working as a fisherman and both he, and Lilian, lived at Kirkley (address unknown).
Benjamin William Chatteris
An Engineman with H.M. Drifter Gleaner of the Sea, Benjamin died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 27.
Benjamin was born at Lowestoft on 25 November 1889, a son of Alfred Charles and Elizabeth Chatteris. In 1891 his family lived at 85 Saint Margaret’s Road. By 1901 his mother had died and his family lived at Bishop’s Buildings, Mariners Street.
On 27 December 1914 Benjamin married Rosa Juler. Benjamin was a fisherman and they both gave their address as 29 Tennyson Avenue. They lived at 85 Kimberley Road, and later Rosa lived at 37 Payne Street.

Arthur was born at Lowestoft on 27 January 1897, a son of Abraham and Ellen Jane Dyke of 19 Lorne Road, Lowestoft.
George Harvey
A Second Hand with H.M. Drifter Gleaner of the Sea. George died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 47.
George was born at Brampton, Suffolk, on 8 May 1869, a son of William and Charlotte Harvey. He was baptised at Brampton on 3 October 1869. In 1871 his family lived at Upper Farm Road, Brampton and in 1881 at The Street, Brampton, and George worked as an agricultural labourer.
Robert George Hurren

Robert was born at Lowestoft on 6 June 1879, a son of William and Ellen Hurren. Robert's father was a fisherman. Robert also became a fisherman and gained his certificate of competency as a skipper in 1910.
Robert married Elizabeth Alice Turrell at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 4th December 1898. They lived at Sparham's Buildings, Whapload Road, before living at 21, and then 25, Worthing Road, Lowestoft.
Bertie Edward Hurren

Bertie was born at Chediston, Suffolk, on 14 August 1891, a son of James and Anna Maria Hurren. In 1901 his family lived at Blackheath Cottages, Wenhaston. By 1911 his mother had died and his family lived near the Fox Inn, Willingham Saint Mary’s, Suffolk, and Bertie was a farm labourer. By 1915 they were living at Cliff Cottage, High Road, Kessingland.
William Alfred Nunn
A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Gleaner of the Sea, William died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 29.
William was born at Kirkley on 16 October 1887, a son of Walter M. and Maria Louisa Nunn. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 4 May 1890. In 1891 his family lived at 1 Stanley Cottages, Carlton Road, and this was still their address in 1901. In 1911 his family lived at 28 Stanley Cottages and William was a drift net fisherman.

Ernest was born at Dunwich on 23 June 1889, a son of Joseph and Sarah Westoby. In 1891 his family lived at Coast Guard Buildings, Kessingland. By 1901 Ernest’s mother had died and he lived with his father at Beach Road, Kessingland. In 1911 they lived at 2 Church Road, Kessingland, and Ernest was a drifter fisherman.

George was born at Pakefield on 23 January 1895, a son of William and Emma Thompson. He was baptised at All Saints’ Church, Pakefield, on 10 March 1895. In 1901 his family lived at 8 Prospect Place, Pakefield. From 3 June 1901 George was a pupil at Cunningham School. By 1911 his family were living at 1 Beach Street, Pakefield.

Herbert Edward Scoggins
An Engineman with H.M. Drifter Golden Rule, Herbert died on 26th of February 1918 at the age of 31.
Herbert was born at Badingham, Suffolk, on 17 June 1886, a son of John and Mary Ann Scoggins. In 1891 his family lived at Pound Green, Badingham, and by 1901 they were living ‘near the Hall’, Knodishall, Suffolk, and Herbert was a stable lad-groom.
Herbert married Edith Bunn in early 1914. They lived at Tunns Cottages, Black Street, Rushmere.
Herbert joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 12 February 1915 and served on the trawler Golden Rule.

An Engineman with H.M. Drifter Golden Rule, Henry died on 15th of February 1918 at the age of 35.
Henry was born at Toft Monks, Norfolk, on 2 April 1883, a son of William and Mary Ann Symonds. He was baptised at Toft Monks Parish Church on 30 May 1886. In 1891 his family lived at Church Road, Toft Monks.

Clifford Arthur Burgess
A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Hastings Castle, Clifford died on 4th of March 1916 at the age of 17.
Clifford was born at Lowestoft on 20 July 1898, a son of William Arthur and Jane Elizabeth Burgess. In 1901 his family lived at 85 Bevan Street, Lowestoft. By 1911 they were living at New Road, Tolcarne, Newlyn, Cornwall. In 1915 they were living at 46 Sussex Road.
Clifford joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 20 July 1915 and joined the trawler Dreel Castle. On 1 September 1915 he joined the trawler Hastings Castle.

A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Hope. Frederick died on 6th of March 1918 at the age of 32.
Frederick was born at Pakefield on 22 September 1886, a son of Frederick and Laura Fisher. In 1891 his family lived at 16 Beach Street, Pakefield. In 1901 his family lived at 6 Lakenham Cottages, Beach Street, Pakefield, and by 1911 at 42 Acton Road. In 1901 Frederick was the eighth hand on the trawler Never Can Tell, LT 283, at Lowestoft.

An Engineman with H.M. Drifter Jeannie Murray, Walter died on 15th of February 1918 at the age of 25.
Walter was born at Hulver, Suffolk, on 21 August 1892, a son of Charles and Laura Button. In 1901 his family lived at Hulver Street, Henstead. In 1901 they lived at The Street, Hulver, and Walter was a fisherman.

A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter John Mitchell, Charles died on 8th of February 1915 at the age of 16.
Charles was born at Oulton Broad on 1 May 1898, a son of George and Jane Turrell. In 1901 his family lived at 33 Victoria Road, Carlton Colville. By 1911 they were living at 3 Lavinia Terrace, Commodore Road, Oulton Broad, and later their address was 112 Commodore Road.
Charles joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 6 February 1915 and served on the drifter John Mitchell.

Bertie was born at Lowestoft on 28 October 1893, a son of William John and Margaret Allen. He was baptised at All Saint's Church, Pakefield, on 11 February 1894, and his family lived at Kirkley. In 1891 his family lived at 82 Pakefield Street. Later his family lived at 22 Pakefield Street.
Archibald Henry Barker
A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Kent County., Archibald died on 8th of December 1916 at the age of 24.
Archibald was born at Broome, Norfolk, on 28 June 1892, a son of Henry and Henrietta Barker. He was baptised at Broome on 27 August 1892. In 1901 his family lived at 9 Risborough Road, Maidenhead, and by 1905 they were living at 108 Cordwallis Road, Maidenhead. Archibald’s father died in 1905 and the family moved back to Broome and his mother married Robert Hancy in 1907.
Samuel Robert Burwood

Samuel was born at Lowestoft on 31 August 1873, a son of William and Matilda Burwood. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 7 October 1877.
Samuel married Maria Garner at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 30 October 1895. At that time he was living at 25 Seago Street, and Maria at 57 Reeve Street, and Samuel was a trawlerman. By 1901 they were living at 281 Raglan Street, and later at 299 Raglan Street.

John was born at Lowestoft on 19 August 1887, a son of Harry and Alice Fletcher. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 14 September 1887, and his family lived at 6 Strand Cottages, and this was still their home in 1901. Later his parents lived at East Street.
William Gallant
A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Kent County, William died on 8th of December 1916 at the age of 47.
William was born at Lowestoft on 10 October 1869, a son of James and Emma Gallant. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 7 November 1869. In 1871 his family lived at Scarl’s Buildings. By 1881 they were living at 10 Burtons Place. In 1891 William was working as a general labourer and lodging at 2 Timpson Street, Liverpool. In 1901 he was working on the trawler Autumn at Penzance.
Percival Phillip Young
A Trimmer with H.M. Drifter Kent County., Percival died on 8th of December 1916 at the age of 30.
Percival was born at Lowestoft on 23 August 1886, a son of Peter and Elizabeth Young. In 1891 his family lived at 13 Selby Street, Lowestoft. This was still their address in 1901 when Percival worked as a telegraph messenger.
Percival became a postman at Lowestoft in November 1906.

Sidney Richard Ayers
A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Launch Out. Sidney died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 26.
Sidney was born at Lowestoft on 23 September 1889, a son of Thomas and Bessie H. Ayers. In 1891 his family lived at 132 Saint Peter’s Street and this was still their home in 1901.
In 1911 Sidney was the fourth hand on the Lowestoft trawler Ivan, at Padstow, Cornwall.
Charles Henry Doy
A Second Hand with H.M. Drifter Launch Out. Charles died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 38.
Charles was born at Lowestoft on 9 October 1878, a son of Charles and Harriett Doy. In 1881 his family lived at 58 Clemence Street.
In 1901 Charles was a seaman on the trawler Rose Bud, LT 594, at Newlyn. Charles was awarded his certificate of competency as a Second Hand in 1905.
Sidney John Freeman
A Trimmer with H.M. Drifter Launch Out, Sidney died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 26.
Sidney was born at Corton on 21 October 1890, a son of John Isaac and Eliza Freeman. He was baptised at Saint Bartholomew's Church, Corton, on 30 November 1890. In 1891 his family lived at Mill Lane, Corton, and by 1901 at The Cliff, Corton. In 1911 they lived at 2 Rocket Cottages, Corton, and Sidney worked as a gardener's labourer.
Sidney joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 2 September 1915 and served with H.M. Drifter Launch Out.

A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Launch Out. James died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 20.
James was born at Lowestoft on 4 March 1896, a son of James Thomas and Harriet Hall. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 19 April 1896, and his family lived at 96 Wollaston Road. In 1901 his family were living at Gladstone Cottages, Kessingland. By 1911 James’ mother had died and his father had remarried. The family lived at Providence House, Field Lane, Kessingland.
Horace Kemp
A Skipper with H.M. Drifter Launch Out, Horace died on 29th of October 1916 at the age of 38.
Horace was born at Haddiscoe on 8 May 1878, a son of George and Sarah Kemp. In 1881 his family lived near the church at Haddiscoe and this was still their address in 1891. Horace went to school at Haddiscoe.

Frederick was born at Lowestoft on 30 January 1899, a son of George and Jemima Long. In 1901 his family lived at Rotterdam Road, Lowestoft. Frederick’s mother died in 1902. Frederick’s father married Emma page in 1904. In 1911 his family lived at 10 St Aubyns Road, Lowestoft. Later his parents lived at 31 Saint Peter’s Road, Lowestoft.

William was born at Lowestoft on 2 September 1898, a son of John and Emma Jane Soanes. In 1901 his family lived at Boardley’s Yard, 1 East Street, Lowestoft. By 1911 his family were living at 6 Spurgeons Score.
William joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 16 August 1915. On 17 August 1915 he joined the trawler Orthes as a Deck Hand. On 2 September 1915 he was promoted to Engineman and joined the trawler Launch Out.
