1st Bn.

William Robert Burgess

A Private with the 1st Battalion, William died on 3rd of July 1916 at the age of 35. 

William was born at Lowestoft in 1880, a son of Robert and Ellen Burgess. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 27 February 1881. In 1881 his family lived at 11 Wollaston Road. By 1891 they were living at 62 Seago Street. By 1901 they were living at 70 Seago Street and William was a general labourer.

In the early years of the Twentieth Century William had a number of encounters with the law and, in 1911, when he had been working as a fisherman, he was sent to prison at Bodmin.

A Private with the 1st Battalion, Walter died on 4th of October 1917 at the age of 33. 

Antrobus Taft Harris

Antrobus Taft Harris

A Lieutenant with 1st Bn., Antrobus died on 19th of March 1916 at the age of 26. 

Son of Clement and Mary Harris of Ellangown, Crieff, Scotland. 

Antrobus was born at Middlesborough where his father was organist at Saint Paul's Church. Antrobus studied music and was a graduate of the University of Edinburgh. He became the organist at Saint James' Episcopal Church, Cupar, Scotland, before, in July 1914, becoming the organist and choir master at Saint Peter's Church Kirkley.

William Henry Smith

A Private with 1st Bn., William died on 16th of June 1915 at the age of 32. 

William was born at Lowestoft in 1885, a son of William Henry and Rebecca Smith. In 1891 his family were living at 3 Lake Lothing Terrace, Laundry Lane, Lowestoft. William was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 8 July 1892, and his family lived at 12 Stevens Street. In 1901 their address was 6 Laundry Lane and William was a fisherman. By 1907 his parents were living at 27 Crown Street, Lowestoft, and later they lived at 63 Tonning Street, Lowestoft.

Ferguson Henry Betts

A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Ferguson died on 21st of March 1918 at the age of 31. 

Ferguson was born at Norwich on 26 April 1887, a son of William Mitchell and Emma Betts. In 1891 his family lived at 7 Cardiff Road, Norwich. He was baptised at Saint Thomas, Heigham, Norwich, on 28 November 1894, and his family lived at 26 Denbigh Road. In 1901 his family lived at 22 Wellington Road, Norwich, and Ferguson was a butcher’s assistant. 

Jack Skinner

A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Jack died on 21st of March 1918 at the age of 21. 

Jack was born at Lowestoft in 1897, a son of John and Alice Skinner. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 13 March 1898 and his family lived at Arnold Street. In 1901 his family lived at Brier House, Police Station Road. By 1911 Jack’s father had died and he lived with his mother, and siblings, at 41 Seago Street. In 1911 his mother married Harry Houghton and later the family lived at 13 Milton Road. 

Benjamin Samuel Woolner

A Private with 2nd Bn., Benjamin died on 1st of July 1916 at the age of 35. 

Benjamin was born at Lowestoft on 1 July 1881, a son of Alfred and Ellen Mary Woolner. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 30 October 1881. In 1891 they lived at 109 Saint Margaret’s Road and, by 1901, they were living at 62 Cambridge Road, and this was still their address in 1911.

James Henry Gouldby

James Henry Gouldby

A Second Lieutenant with 5th Battalion (Territorial) attached 7th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, James died on 25th of August 1918 at the age of 24. 

James was born at Lowestoft in 1891, a son of William and Helena Clara Gouldby. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 21 April 1895 and his family lived at 239 Raglan Street. In 1901 they lived at 67 Raglan Street. By 1911 they were living at 133 Clapham Road and James was an assistant in his father's business as a Hay and Corn Merchant. 

James served with the 1/1st Suffolk Yeomanry.

Frederick Charles Havers in military uniform

Frederick Charles Havers

A Second Lieutenant attached to the 2nd Battalion; Frederick died on 27th of May 1918 aged 26.

Frederick was born at Norwich in 1892, a son of Frederick George and Henrietta Havers. In 1901 his family lived at 16 Angle Row Catton, Norwich, and in 1911 at 18 Traverse Street, Norwich, and Frederick was a house painter. By 1918 his parents were living at Shirley, The Avenue, Lowestoft, and later at 2 The Prairie.

Thomas Walter Moore

A Private with the 8th Battalion, Thomas died on 11th of October 1917 at the age of 30. 

Thomas was born at Hulver in 1887, a son of George and Amy Louisa Moore. In 1891 his family lived at 98 Cambridge Road, Lowestoft. By 1901 Thomas' father had died and his family lived at 37 Crown Street. In 1911 his family lived at 38 Lawson Road and Thomas worked as a machine minder at a printers. 

Thomas married Florence Martha Smith at Lowestoft in 1916. Their home was at 29 Roman Road, Lowestoft.
