11th Bn.

William Parker

A Private with the 11th Battalion, William died on 23rd of March 1918 at the age of 23. 

William was born at Thorpe next Norwich on 19 July 1894, a son of Rufus and Violet Parker. He was baptised at Thorpe Saint Andrew on 4 November 1894. In 1901 his family lived at Chapel Lane, Thorpe, Norwich, and this was still their address in 1911 when William was a general labourer.

Albert Charles Godbold

A Private with the 18th Battalion, Albert died on 13th of September 1918 aged 19. 

Albert was born at Lowestoft in 1899, a son of Albert and Margaret Maria Godbold. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 14 July 1899 and his family lived at 17 Arnold Street and in 1901 they lived at 22 Arnold Street. Later they lived at 49 Carlton Road, Pakefield.

Joseph Bryant

A Corporal with the 1st Battalion, Joseph died on 14th of June 1944 aged 21. 

The Army Roll of Honour for World War Two states that Joseph was born at Lanarkshire, Scotland, and that he was living at Portsmouth when he enlisted. Commonwealth War Graves records state that his parents were William and Margaret Bryant. However, no civil records of his birth, or his parents, have been found.

In 1941 Joseph married Doris May Godfrey, this was registered in the Lothingland district. Doris’ family lived at 4 Winnipeg Road. Doris remarried in 1952.

Hedley George Littleproud

A Private with the 2/7th Battalion, Hedley died on 31st of March 1918 at the age of 25. 

Hedley was born at Dereham in 1893, a son of Alfred and Harriet Littleproud. In 1901 his family lived at Lynn Road, Gayton, Kings Lynn. This was still their address in 1911 when Hedley worked as a baker. 

On 25 October 1915 Hedley married Charlotte Emily Cadamy at Saint Nicholas’ Chapel, King’s Lynn. Hedley was a baker and they both gave their address as 9 Mill Fleet. Subsequently Charlotte lived at 6 Trafalgar Street, Lowestoft.

Arthur William Stevens Mason

A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Arthur died on 2nd of September 1918 aged 36. 

Arthur was born at Lowestoft on 14 September 1884, a son of Arthur and Charlotte Britteon Mason. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 4 January 1885. In 1891 his family lived at 16 Laundry Lane. In 1901 they lived at 71 Norwich Road and Arthur may have been a trawl fisherman. Later his mother lived at 58 May Road.

Ernest Reginald Rushmore

Ernest Reginald Rushmore

A Second Lieutenant with 4th Battalion attached to the 11th Battalion, Ernest died on 6th of September 1917 at the age of 20. 

Ernest was born at Great Yarmouth on 22 June 1897, a son of John Ernest and Caroline Sarah Rushmore. He was baptised at Great Yarmouth on 29 August 1897 and his family lived at Southtown. In 1901 his family lived at 1 Richmond Place, Kirkley. By 1911 the family were living at 12 Grosvenor Road and later at Victoria House, The Esplanade, Lowestoft.
