Frederick Barnes

A Private with the 11th Battalion, Frederick died on 19th of July 1918 at the age of 20. 

13th Bn.

Albert Benjamin Meek

A Private with the 13th Battalion, Albert died on 15th of March 1917 at the age of 32. 

Albert was born at Norwich on 9 April 1884, a son of James Goddard and Susan Meek. He was baptised at Thorpe Hamlet on 7 May 1884. In 1891 his family lived at Cavalry Street, Norwich. By 1901 they were living at Eden Street, Lowestoft, and Albert’s father was a manager at Lowestoft Gas Works, and Albert worked as a hairdresser. Later his parents lived at 1 Gas Hill, Norwich. By 1911 Albert, and his brother Frederick, were living at 89 Whapload Road, and Albert was a hairdresser.

Spencer Charles Ashenden

A Sergeant with 1st Bn., Spencer died on 22nd of July 1941 at the age of 28.

Spencer was born at Hawkhurst, Kent, on 4 August 1912, a son of Thomas and Ellen Amelia Ashenden. He was baptised at Saint Laurence with All Saints' Church, Hawkhurst, on 13 October 1912 and his family lived at 1 Grassmere Terrace, Woodbury Road, Hawkhurst. Later his parents lived at High-gate Hill, Hawkhurst, Kent.

Everard Andrews

Everard Ronald Theodosius Andrews

A Private with 2nd Bn., Everard died on 25th of September 1915 at the age of 18. 

Everard was born at Lowestoft in 1896, a son of Frederick James and Rachel Jessie Andrews. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 18 December 1896, and his family lived at 14 Lawson Road, Lowestoft. In 1901 they lived at 14 Lawson Road. By 1911 they were living at 28 Salisbury Road, Lowestoft, and Everard was working as a boy in an engineer's shop in the 'motor industry'.

William Valentine Coleman

William Valentine Coleman

A Private with 2nd Bn., William died on 25th of September 1915 at the age of 28. 

William was born at Ramsgate in 1887, a son of William Danton and Martha Coleman. He was baptised at Saint George's Church, Ramsgate, on 10 April 1887, and his family lived at 22 Liverpool Lawn, Ramsgate. In 1891 his family lived at 64 Maygrove Place, Great Yarmouth. By 1901 William's father had died and his family lived at 9 Stevens Street, Lowestoft. By 1911 they were living at 77 Norwich Road, Lowestoft, and later his mother lived at 36 Denmark Road, Lowestoft.

Richard Charles Phillips

A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Richard died on 9th of September 1916 at the age of 22. 

Richard was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1893, a son of Richard Samuel and Margaret Hannah Coker Phillips. In 1901 his family lived at 87 Vine Street, Wallsend. In 1902 Richard’s father died and subsequently his mother married Robert Taylor. In 1911 the family lived at 17 Ontario Road, Lowestoft, and Richard was a painter working for a building company. Later his family lived at 11 Norfolk Street.

Herbert Ambrose Copping

A Private with the 3/6th Battalion, Herbert died on 24th of October 1917 at the age of 27. 

Herbert was born at Woodbridge, Suffolk, on 13 July 1890, a son of John and Martha Copping. He was baptised at Woodbridge on 31 August 1890. In 1891 his family lived at Cumberland Street, Woodbridge. By 1901 they were living at 17 Hamilton Street, Ramsey, Essex, and this was still their home in 1911.

53rd Bn.

James Johnstone

A Private with the 53rd Battalion, James died on 23rd of October 1918 aged 18.

James was born at Lowestoft on 21 July 1900, a son of James and Emma Johnstone. In 1901 his family lived at Florence House, 1 Ashby Road, and this was still their home in 1911. James became a pupil at Lowestoft School of Science on 18 April 1910. By 1921 his family lived at 88 Denmark Road.   

James enlisted in the Army at Bury St. Edmonds. He served with the 53rd (Young Soldier) Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment, a recruit basic training unit based at Aldershot.

Arthur William Blake

A Lance Corporal with the 7th Battalion, Arthur died on 24th of October 1918 aged 22. 

Arthur was born at Hardley, near Loddon, in 1896, a son of Arthur and Laura Blake. By 1901 his family were living at Park Hill Cottages, Corton. In 1911 their address was 3 Park Hill Cottages, and Arthur was a farm boy. 

Daniel Frederick Isted

A Lance Sergeant with 7th Battalion, Daniel died on 9th of April 1916 at the age of 36.

Daniel, also known as Dan, was born at All Saints, Lewes, Sussex, in 1879, a son of Frederick W. and Helena Isted. In 1891 his family lived at 6 Woodford Green, Walthamstow. By 1898 his family were living at 6 Lodge Place, North Finchley.

Sidney Arthur Edwards

A Private with the 8th Battalion, Sidney died on 24th of September 1918 aged 22. 

Sidney was born at Kessingland in 1896, a son of Frederick George and Laura Edwards. He was baptised at Saint Edmund’s Church, Kessingland, on 6 September 1896 and his family lived at Upper Kessingland. In 1901 his family lived at 32 Seago Street, Lowestoft, and in 1911 at 27 Princes Road when Sidney was a chemist’s errand boy. Later his parents lived at 164 Saint Peters Street.

Laurence William Greengrass

A Private with the 9th Battalion, Laurence died on 9th of October 1918 aged 19.

Laurence was born at Lowestoft in 1899, a son of Robert and Mary Greengrass. In 1901 his family lived at Whites Cottages, Victoria Road, Carlton Colville. By 1911 Laurence’s father had died and he lived with his mother at Victoria Road, Oulton Broad.

Laurence began working for the Great Eastern Railway Company as an engine cleaner, at Lowestoft, in 1916.
