John Arthur Allen
A Private with 1st Bn. John died on 9th of July 1944 aged 19.
John was born at Lowestoft in 1925, a son of Harry Leon and Adelaide Alice May Allen. John's father died in 1926 and in 1929 his mother married Ernest Bridge. Throughout his life John's family lived at 64 Saint George's Road, Lowestoft.
John served with the 1st Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment. His battalion landed on Red Queen Beach on D-Day, 6 June 1944.

Stanley William Cook
A Lance Sergeant with the 1st Battalion, Stanley died on 14th of October 1944 aged 25.
Stanley was born at Kirkley on 11 September 1919, a son of Thomas William and May Annie Cook. In 1921 his family lived at 192 The Avenue, and this was till their home in 1939 when Stanley was an apprentice printer.
Stanley served in north-west Europe with the 1st Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment. His battalion landed at Normandy on D-Day.

Robert George Thompson
A Private with the 1st Battalion, Robert died on 23rd of November 1944 aged 21.
Robert was born on 24 March 1923, a son of Albert Edward and Edith Ada Thompson. In 1939 his family lived at Raveningham Road, Stockton, Loddon, and Robert worked on a farm. Subsequently his family lived at Blundeston.
Robert served with the 1st Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment in north-west Europe. His battalion landed at Normandy on D-Day. On 23 November the battalion advanced to woods north of Oostrum and sent out patrols toward Wanssum. Robert was killed in action.

Leslie Jack Tovell
A Lance Corporal with the 1st Battalion, Leslie died on 19th of June 1944 aged 31.
4 August 1912, a son of Thomas and Mary Tovell. In 1921 his family lived at The Warren, Carlton Colville.
On 16 April 1937 Leslie married Eileen Edith Easey at Holy Trinity Church, Gisleham. In 1939 they lived at Glanvill, Rushmere Road, Carlton Colville, and Leslie was a solicitor’s clerk.

John Frederick Johnston Williams
A Lieutenant with the 1st Battalion, John died on 11th of June 1944 aged 21.
John was born at Hockley, Birmingham, on 16 September 1922, a son of The Reverend Fred and Marion Frances Sylvester Williams. By 1939 John’s father had become the Vicar of Saint John’s Church, Lowestoft, and his family lived at Saint Johns Vicarage, 17, The Esplanade, Lowestoft.
John became an Officer Cadet and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Norfolk Regiment on 1 May 1943. He served with the 1st Battalion.

Arthur Harold Reeve
A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Arthur died between 10 May and 26 June 1940, aged 27.
Arthur was born at Pakefield in 1913, a son of Jack and Sarah Florence Reeve. In 1921 his family lived at 2 Wellington Road, Pakefield. By 1939 his widowed mother lived at 22 Edgerton Road.

George Reginald Ames
A Private with the 2nd Battalion, George died on 28th of May 1944 aged 19.
George was born at Lowestoft on 6 August 1924, a son of James and Catherine Mary Ames. In 1939 his family lived at 121 Fir Lane and George was a dyer at a silkworks.

Albert Victor Jenkerson
A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Albert died on 24th of May 1940 aged 21.
Albert was born at Lowestoft on 24 February 1919, a son of son of Edward John and Florence Beatrice Jenkerson. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 20 March 1919 and his family lived at 17 Beresford Road and this was still thier home in 1921. By 1939 his family were living at 4 Raglan Street and Albert worked as a fitter’s mate – hot water pipes. It seems that Albert joined the Army soon after the 1939 Register was taken.

Herbert Winston Sidney Pye
A Corporal with the 2nd Battalion, Herbert died on 21st of May 1940 at the age of 28.
Herbert was born at Lowestoft on 3 August 1911, a son of James John and Florence Edith Pye. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 18 August 1911 and his family lived at 76 Whapload Road. In 1921 his family lived at 20 Chapel Street.

Bruce Arthur Waters
A Lance Corporal with the 2nd Battalion, Bruce died on 26th of May 1940 aged 27.
Bruce was born at Lowestoft in 1913, a son of William Arthur and Eliza Mary Waters. In 1921 his family lived at 7 Lorne Road, and this was still their home in 1939.

Eric Victor Wright
A Corporal with the 2nd Battalion, Eric died on 29th of May 1940 aged 20.
Eric was born at Lowestoft on 23 July 1919, a son of Sidney William and Gladys Muriel Wright. Eric was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 7 August 1919 and his family lived at 41 Park Road which was still their home in 1921. Eric’s mother died in 1928, and his father remarried. In 1939 his family lived at 15 Reeve Street.

Ernest Arthur Ashworth
A Private with the 4th Battalion, Ernest died on 12th of February 1942 aged 25.
Ernest was born at Lowestoft on 26 November 1916, a son of Ernest Arthur and Alice Amelia Ashworth. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 16 December 1916 and his family lived at 8 Essex Road. In 1939 Ernest lived at 10 Essex Road and was a semi-skilled coach painter.

Robert John Buckenham
A Private with the 4th Battalion, Robert died on 12th of February 1942 at the age of 23.
Robert was born at Lowestoft on 20 October 1918, a son of William Henry (Harry) and May Lucy Buckenham. In 1921 his family lived at 17 Wellington Cottages, Clapham Road, and by 1939 their address was given as 17 Clapham Road, Lowestoft. In 1939 Robert worked as a fish curer.

William George Buckenham
A Private with the 4th Battalion, William died on 18th June 1943 at the age of 28.
William was born at Lowestoft on 13 May 1915, a son of William Henry (Harry) and May Lucy Buckenham. In 1921 his family lived at 17 Wellington Cottages, Clapham Road, and by 1939 their address was given as 17 Clapham Road, Lowestoft. In 1939 William worked as a fish buyer for a shop.

Frank Horace Bullen
A Private with the 4th Battalion, Frank died on 6th of February 1944 aged 30.
Frank was born at Corton on 31 August 1914, a son of Frank James Bullen and Gertrude Jane Bullen. In 1921 his family lived at Well Cottages, Corton, and this was Frank’s home for the rest of his life. In 1939 Frank worked as a builder’s labourer.

Kenneth Durrant
A Private with 4th Bn., Kenneth died on 19th of August 1943 at the age of 25.
Kenneth was born at Leeds on 25 July 1918, a son of Ernest Frank and Christiana Sarah Durrant. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 18 September 1918. At that time his family lived at 35 Wellclose Mount, Leeds. In 1939 his family lived at 137 Bells Road, Gorleston, and Kenneth worked as a baker's ovenman. Kenneth was a nephew of Miss Margaret Ellen Lamb of 59 London Road South, Lowestoft.

Ronald Leslie Durrant
A Private with the 4th Battalion, Ronald died on 12th of September 1944 aged 25.
Ronald was born at Lowestoft on 23 August 1919, a son of Philip Clarence and Eva Durrant. In 1921 his family lived at 14 Tonning Street and by 1939 their home was at 41 Tonning Street and Ronald was a printing compositor.

Jack Gravells
A Private with the 4th Battalion. Jack died on 14th of February 1942 at the age of 27.
Jack was born at Lowestoft on 23 June 1914, a son of Joseph and Florence Gravells. In 1911 his family had lived at 3 Turner's Cottages, Saint John's Road, Lowestoft. By 1921 they were living at 13 Clemence Street, Lowestoft, and this was still their home in 1939 at which time Jack was a fish worker.

Reginald Herbert Hitcham
A Private with the 4th Battalion, Reginald died on 13th of February 1942 aged 28.
Reginald was born at Kirkley on 27 July 1913, a son of Henry and Louisa Hitcham. In 1921 his family lived at 42 Morton Road. This was still their home in 1939 when Reginald was a butcher’s shop assistant.
In 1940 Reginald married Mina Edith McCann, this was registered in the Lothingland district.

Douglas Carl Miller
A Private with the 4th Battalion, Douglas died on 5th of October 1943 aged 26.
Douglas was born at Lowestoft on 16 July 1917, a son of Herbert and Mary Miller. In 1921 his family lived at 89 Beresford Road. B y 1939 they were living at 133 Saint Peter’s Street and Douglas was a wood machinist’s mate.

Cyril Muskett
A Private with the 4th Battalion, Cyril died on 21st of September 1943 aged 25.
Cyril was born at Lowestoft on 2 December 1917, a son Florence Jane Muskett. In 1919 Cyril’s mother married Archibald Cecil Brown. In 1921 his family lived at 3 Princes Road. By 1939 his family were living at 24 Fir Lane and Cyril was an omnibus chair maker. When he enlisted, he stated that he was a carpenter. Cyril married Vera Grace Lee in 1940, this was registered in the Lothingland district. Vera lived at 22 Fir Lane. Vera remarried in 1947.

John Charles Nathan
A Private with the 4th Battalion, John died on 12th of February 1942 aged 22.
John was born at Lowestoft on 15 November 1919, a son of John Charles and Lilian May Nathan. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 1 January 1920 and his family lived at 71 Beresford Road. By 1939 his parents were living at 6 Suffolk Road.

Henry George Sturley
A Private with the 4th Battalion, Henry died on 21st of September 1944 aged 31.
Henry was born at Lowestoft on 30 May 1913, a son of George Henry James and Lily Maud Sturley. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 10 July 1913 and his family lived at 2 Excelsior Cottages, Oulton Road. In 1921 their home was at 222 Raglan Street, and this was their home in 1939 when Henry was a saw mill labourer. By 1944 his family were living at 1 Riverside Road.

Alan Jack Sturman
A Lance Corporal with the 4th Battalion, Alan died on 12th of September 1943 aged 26.
Alan was born at Oulton on 11 July 1917, a son of John R. and Mary Ann Sturman. In 1921 his family lived at Mill Road Mutford, and this was still their address in 1939 when Alan worked as a grocer’s assistant. In early 1941 Alan married Joan Olive Elsey, this was registered in the Wainford district. Joan lived at Hulver and remarried in 1946.

Raymond George Charles Ditcham
A Private with the 5th Battalion, Raymond died on 11th of November 1942 aged 24.
Raymond was born at Great Yarmouth on 29 November 1917, a son of Charles William and Edith Alice Ditcham. In 1921 his family lived at 196 Stafford Road, Great Yarmouth. By 1939 Raymond’s family were living at 40 Norfolk Street, Lowestoft. Before joining the Army Raymond was a cotton clothing cutter.

Ivor John Durrant
A Private with the 5th Battalion, Ivor died on 29th of September 1945 aged 29.
John was born at Gisleham on 3 August 1916, a son of Frederick William and Rosa Jane Durrant. In 1921 his family lived at Black Street, Gisleham. Later his family lived at 3 Mill Villa, Gisleham.
Ivor worked as a general labourer before enlisting in the Royal Norfolk Regiment.

Eric David Jones
A Private with the 5th Battalion, Eric died on 11th of July 1943 aged 23.
Eric was born at Lowestoft on 12 September 1919, a son of Charles and Ida Jones. In 1921 his family lived at 19 Southwell Road. Eric’s mother died in 1935 and in 1939 his family lived at 69 Waveney Drive.

Stanley Moyse
A Lance Corporal with the 5th Battalion, Stanley died on 3rd of August 1943 aged 27.
Stanley was born at Lowestoft on 23 July 1916, a son of Ernest Henry and Letitia Moyse. In 1921 his family lived at 8 Jacobs Street. By 1939 his family were living at 7 Waveney Crescent and Stanley was a general labourer. In early 1940 Stanley married Ellen Margaret Dorothea Dewell, this was registered in the Lothingland district. By 1943 Ellen was living at Council Chambers, Bridge Road, Oulton Broad.

Cuthbert Martin Parkhurst Pugh
A Private with the 5th Battalion, Cuthbert died on 12th of July 1943 aged 30.
Cuthbert was born at Wimbledon, London, on 21 June 1913, a son of The Reverend Baldwyn de Fonmartin and Emily Marion Pugh. He was baptised at Saint Saviour’s Church, Raynes Park, on 20 July 1913 and his family lived at Talbot Road, Wimbledon. In 1921 his family lived at Kings Cottage, Monnington on Wye, Brobury, Herefordshire. By 1934 Cuthbert’s father had become the Rector of Gisleham and his family lived at Gisleham Rectory.

Kenneth William Read
A Lance Corporal with the 5th Battalion, Kenneth died on 17th of August 1943 aged 23.
Kenneth was born at Leiston on 19 December 1919, a son of Leonard and Dorothy Grace Read. In 1921 his family lived at 11 Station Road, Carlton, Nottingham. By 1939 they were living at 17 Minden Road, Lowestoft, and Kenneth was a grocery provision salesman.

Reginald George Skoulding
A Private with the 5th Battalion, Reginald died on 9th of June 1942 aged 36.
Reginald was born at Oulton Broad on 26 March 1906, a son of George Thomas and Minnie Skoulding. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Carlton Colville, on 17 June 1906, and his family lived at Victoria Road, Oulton Broad. By 1911 they were living at The Gate House, Marsh Lane, Carlton Colville, and in 1921 their address was Dunwich Cottages, Carlton Colville, and Reginald was employed miking for Mr. Bond at Rookery Farm, Carlton Colville.

Charles Robert Snelling
A Private with the 5th Battalion, Charles died on 14th of October 1943 aged 26.
Charles was born at Lowestoft on 13 February 1917, a son of George Valentine and Ethel Honor Snelling. In 1921 his family lived at 310 Raglan Street. By 1939 their home was at 74 Milton Road and Charles was a bricklayer’s labourer.

Dennis Frank Adcock
A Private with 6th Bn. Dennis died on 26th of January 1942 at the age of 26.
Dennis was born at Norwich on 5 April 1915, a son of Frank Spencer Adcock and of May Mildred Adcock. In 1921 his family lived at the Police Station, East Dereham, where is father was a Police Constable. By 1939 they were living at Docking, Norfolk, where is father was the licensee of The Railway public house and Dennis worked as a grocer's assistant. Later his parents lived at 39 Stanford Street.

Richard Joseph Breach
A Private with the 6th Battalion, Richard died on 20 October 1943 at the age of 25.
Richard was born at Lowestoft on 9 October 1918, a son of Ernest Edward and Syrena Breach. A note in prisoner of war records suggests that Richard was born at 19 Saint Aubyns Road, Pakefield. In 1921 his family lived at 12 Carlton Road, and this was still their home when Richard’s father died in 1934.

Harold Hume
A Private with 6th Bn. Harold died on 1st of August 1943 at the age of 27.
Harold was born at Lowestoft on 16 August 1914, a son of William Charles and Harriet Hume. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church on 3 September 1914 and his family lived at 81 May Road.
In 1941 Harold married Norah May Catchpole. Their marriage was registered in the Stafford district. In the mid-1940s Norah lived at Walton, Stone, Staffordshire.
Harold was working as a cocktail barman when he joined the Army.

Herbert Cyril Minister
A Lance Corporal with the 6th Battalion, Herbert died on 22nd of March 1944 aged 29.
Herbert was born at Wrentham in 1915, a son of Charles and Rose Minister. In 1921 his family lived at Southwold Road, Wrentham.
Herbert married Eileen Alice Self in 1941. She lived at Kessingland.
In late 1939 the 6th Battalion was stationed at Sheringham and in spring 1940 guarded the coast from Sheringham to Overstrand. In August 1940 the Battalion moved to Holt and later in the year they moved to Weybourne, and then Swaffham.

Charles William Porter
A Private, Charles died on 8th of December 1944 at the age of 30.
Charles was born at Lowestoft on 7 April 1914, a son of John and Violet Mabel Porter. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church on 24 April 1914 and his family lived at 70 Stanley Street. In 1921 his family lived at 12 Minden Road and by 1939 his parents were living at 14 Union Road, Lowestoft.
Charles was working as a fish curer when he joined the Army.

John Bertlot Reeder
A Private with 6th Bn. John died on 27th of January 1942 at the age of 29.
John was born at Hopton on 12 June 1913, a son of Alfred and Rose Elizabeth Reeder. By 1939 his family were living at Blacksmith Loke, Hopton, and John worked as a postman.
In late 1939 the 6th Battalion was stationed at Sheringham and in spring 1940 guarded the coast from Sheringham to Overstrand. In August 1940 the Battalion moved to Holt and later in the year they moved to Weybourne, and then Swaffham.

George Edward Simpson-Smith
A Private with the 6th Battalion, George died on 19th of January 1942 aged 23.
George was born at Hull in 1918, a son of George Alexander Simpson and Elsie Mary Smith. In 1921 his family lived at 16 Suffolk Road, Lowestoft. By 1939 they were living at 139 Saint Peters Street.

Harold Ernest Soanes
A Private with 6th Bn., Harold died on 18th of January 1942 at the age of 23.
Harold was born at Lowestoft in 1918 a son of Frederick William and Anna Maria Soanes. His family lived at 66 Albany Cottages, Kirkley. In 1939 his family lived at 88 Kirkley Run.
Harold married Rhoda Batty, of Kirkley, in 1940.
In late 1939 the 6th Battalion was stationed at Sheringham and in spring 1940 guarded the coast from Sheringham to Overstrand. In August 1940 the Battalion moved to Holt and later in the year they moved to Weybourne, and then Swaffham.
