A Flight Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Stanley died on 23rd September 1944 at the age of 20.

Stanley was born at Lowestoft on 20 October 1922, a son of William and Nellie Norah Skippen. In 1939 his family lived at 2 Osborne Street. By 1946 Samuel’s parents were living at Tile House, Mancetter Road, Atherstone, Warwickshire. 

Stanley enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after June 1941. By September 1944 Stanley was a Pilot with 252 Squadron based at Gambut, Libya.

An Aircraftman 2nd Class with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Sydney died on 30th of August 1946 aged 19. 

Son of Sydney Bertram and Ethel Blanche Cooper of Lowestoft. In 1939 they lived at 31 Stanford Street. 

Sydney joined the air force in late 1945 served with 265 Maintenance Unit based at Grove, Berkshire.  

A Pilot Officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Charles died on 11th of April 1944 aged 31. 

Charles was born at Herringfleet in 1913, a son of Charles George and Annie Elizabeth Gale. In 1921 his family lived at Priory Road, Saint Olaves. Later his family lived at 7 Station Terrace, Herringfleet. 

A Leading Aircraftman with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Hugh died on 3rd of July 1943 aged 33. 

Hugh was born at Lowestoft on 24 August 1909, a son of Ernest Jabez and Ada Maria Morling. In 1911 his family lived at Snowdon House, 146, London Road North. By 1921 they were living at 23 Old Nelson Street and later his father lived at 45 Gunton Drive. 

In 1935 Hugh married Winifred May Gouldby. By 1939 Hugh and Winifred were living at 20 Ipswich Road and Hugh was the director and joint manager of Pearn’s Radio and Music Retailers and Repairers. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Richard died on 26th of September 1945 at the age of 25.

Son of Hylton Charles and Agnes Harriet Ellis of 74 Sycamore Avenue Lowestoft. Richard's brother Hylton also served with the air force and died in 1940. Richard married his brother's widow Alice.

Richard enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after October 1941. He was a Pilot and in September 1945 was serving with 33 Squadron, based at Sylt, Germany. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Reginald died on 11th of April 1943 aged 21. 

Reginald was born at West Ham in 1921, a son of William John Nason and Maud Mary Nason. In 1921 his family lived at 90 Pond Road, West Ham, and by 1939 his parents were living at 654 Longbridge Road, Barking.

Reginald married Gladys Ivy Pavelin, in the Ilford district, in 1940, and she later lived at Gisleham, Suffolk. Gladys remarried in 1944 and in 1945 was living at The Street, Lound. Reginald worked as an agent before he enlisted. 

A Pilot Officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Richard died on 23 November 1942, aged 20. 

Richard was born at Pakefield on 25 December 1921, a son of Owen Eardley and Florence Gray. He was baptised at All Saints’ Church, Pakefield, on 12 February 1922, and his family lived at Sunnyholme, Carlton Road. By 1939 they were living at 10 Grayson Avenue and Richard was draughtsman and student and was also a member of the Auxiliary Ambulance. 

A Flying Officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Fernley died on 26th of April 1945 aged 21. 

Fernley was born at Lowestoft in 1923, a son of John Thomas and Mildred May Clarke. By 1945 his family were living at 141 Beccles Road, Oulton Broad.

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Ralph died on 12th of February 1942 aged 21.

Ralph was born at Ipswich on 11 June 1920, a son of Edgar Tomlinson and of Harriet Rhoda Tomlinson. In 1921 his family lived at 52 Fleet Street, Bury, Lancashire. 

On 31 July 1937 Ralph was appointed to a role with the Civil Service clerical class and, by 1939, when his family lived at Briardale, Chestnut Avenue, Oulton Broad, Ralph worked with the clerical section of the Post Office telephone department. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Bertie died on 21st of January 1944 aged 26.

Bertie was born at Lound in 1918, a son of Henry and Anne Estella Turner. In 1921 his family lived at Yarmouth Road, Corton. In 1939 Bertie’s parents lived at Woodlands Cottages, Yarmouth Road, Corton.

In 1936 Bertie married Agnes Mabel Vale, this was registered in the Lothingland district. In 1939 Agnes lived with her parents at 22 Trafalgar Street. 

A Flight Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Delbert died on 18th of September 1945 aged 20. 

Delbert was born at Lowestoft in 1924, a son of George Frederick and Gladys Turner. In 1939 his family lived at 33 Edinburgh Road. 

Delbert enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after October 1942. By September 1945 Delbert was a Flight Engineer serving with 466 (Royal Australian Air Force) Squadron, based at Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Frank died on 16th of March 1945 aged 21.

Frank was born at Lowestoft on 16 September 1924, a son of Edward A. G. and Ethel M. Haylock. In 1939 his family lived at 59 Norwich Road and Frank was a water and gas office boy.

Frank enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after May 1943. By March 1945 he was a Flight Engineer serving with 49 Squadron, based at Fulbeck, Lincolnshire. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Bernard died on 4th of October 1944 aged 21. 

Bernard was born on 17 February 1923, a son of Frank Nelson and Lily Beatrice Barker. In 1939 his family lived at The Police Station, Mendham, where his father was a Police Constable. Bernard worked from the London and North Eastern Railway at Harleston Station and was a well known sportsman, playing cricket and football with local clubs. 
By 1944 Bernard’s parents were living at 10 Lorne Park Road, Lowestoft, and later they lived at 50 Worthing Road.    

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Sturgess died on 13th of July 1943 aged 32. 

Sturgess was born at Briston, near Melton Constable, Norfolk, on 29 September 1911, a son of William Herbert and Mildred Rayner. In 1921 his family lived at Briston.

In 1935 Sturgess married Grace Maud Ebbage, this was registered in the Erpingham district. In 1939 they lived at ‘Dawn’, 19 Highland Way, Oulton Broad, and Sturgess was a coach painter and member of the Auxiliary Fire Service. 

A Sergeant with 500 Squadron, Alan died on 30th of August 1941 at the age of 20. 

Alan was born at Lowestoft on 24 September 1920, a son of Albert John and Valerie Rhoda Peek. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 15 October 1920. His family lived at Wycombe Terrace, Saint Georges Road, Lowestoft, for all of Alan's life. 

Alan served with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and was a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner. He was based at Bircham Newton with 500 Squadron. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Archie died on 3rd of August 1942 aged 22. 

Archie was born at Lowestoft on 1 May 1920, a son of Henry Charles and Laura Jane Sparham. In 1921 his family lived at 14 Suffolk Road and by 1939 they were living at 31 Windsor Road and Archie was a timber merchant’s clerk. Probate record give Archie’s address as Ferndale, Walmer Road.  

Archie joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after April 1940. Archie was a Wireless Operator / Air Gunner. In August 1942 he was serving with 58 Squadron. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, George died on 23rd of February 1941 at the age of 26.

George was a son of George Harry and Ethel Bland. George's father served in the Northamptonshire Regiment in the First World War and was killed in action on 22 October 1914. George was born at Colchester on 21 February 1915, some four months after his father's death. 

A Pilot Officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Gordon died on 8th of April 1941 aged 24. 

Gordon was born at Lowestoft on 13 April 1917, a son of Harold Hugh and Florence Sarah Chipperfield. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 24 January 1919 and his family lived at 125 Bevan Street. In 1921 Gordon lived with his grandparents, Frederick and Emma Chipperfield, at 125 Bevan Street. In 1939 Gordon was an electrical engineer and he lived at 50 Denmark Road with his grandmother Emma. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, George died on 2nd of December 1943 aged 19. 

George was born at Beccles in 1924, a son of Fred and Lily Maud Crowe. In 1939 his family lived at 13 Hadenham Terrace, Carlton Colville.

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Ivor died on 20th of February 1944 aged 21. 

Ivor was born at Lowestoft on 3 June 1922, a son of Henry Stephen and Gertrude Ellen May May. In 1939 his family lived at 28 Saint Peter's Street, Lowestoft.

Ivor was appointed temporary Postman - Messenger, at Lowestoft, in December 1938. In January 1941 he was appointed Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist at Lowestoft. 

A Flying Officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, John died on 23rd of January 1945 aged 23. 

John was born at Lowestoft on 8 May 1921, a son of John Pater Turner and Hilda Beatrice Turner. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 4 June 1921, and his grandparents, Alfred J. and Elizabeth M. Turner, lived at Walmer House, London Road South. 

John, and his parents, lived at 73 Saint George’s Road, Newbury, Berkshire, in 1921, and by 1939 their home was at 32 Howard Road, Newbury, and John was a first year medical student. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Brian died on 2nd of December 1944 aged 22. 

Brian was born at Lowestoft on 1 November 1924, a son of Leonard E. and Bessie M. Coleman. In 1939 his family lived at 251 Victoria Road, Oulton Broad, and Brian was till at school.

Brian joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after October 1942. In December 1944 he was a member of 70 Squadron based at Tortorella, Italy. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Eric died on 23rd of January 1943 aged 20. 

Eric was born at Chorley, Lancashire, on 17 November 1922, a son of William and Evelyn Berry. In 1939 his family lived at Loomdi, Normanston Drive, and Eric was an electrician and engineer.

Eric enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after August 1940. On 19 December 1942 Eric joined 75 Squadron, at R.A.F. Newmarket. He was a Wireless Operator. 

A Warrant Officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Albert died on 19th of April 1945 aged 28. 

Albert was born at Uggeshall, Suffolk, on 14 August 1916, a son of Charles and Harriet Read. In 1921 their home was at Blyford, Suffolk. 

In 1939 Albert lived at 215 Gorleston Road, Carlton Colville, and was a motor mechanic. On 8 April 1939 he married Cissie Ella May Hawkes at Saint Peter’s Church, Carlton Colville. By 1945 their home was at Souter Cottages, Beccles Road, Carlton Colville. Cissie remarried in 1949.

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, John died on 8th of November 1941 aged 21. 

A Pilot Officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Charles died on 16th of February 1944 aged 21.

Charles was born at Marylebone, London, on 21 December 1922, a son of Henry George and Ellen Louisa Folkard. In 1939 his family lived at Farawa, Hall Road, Oulton Broad, and Charles was a student.  

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Maurice died on 3rd of June 1942 aged 24. 

Maurice was born at Lowestoft on 29 August 1917, a son of Stanley Arthur and Alice Gertrude Waller. In 1921 Maurice's family lived at 8 Gordon Road, Lowestoft, and by 1939 they were living at The Hall, Gorleston Road, Oulton, and Maurice was an articled clerk to a Chartered Accountant.  

Maurice joined the Royal Air force Volunteer Reserve after April 1940. He was a Wireless Operator. In June 1942 he served with 85 Squadron.

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Russell died on 12th of May 1944 aged 20. 

Russell was born at Lowestoft on 18 May 1923, a son of Russell and Violet Rosanna Leggitt. By 1939 Russell’s father had died and he lived with his mother at 12 Trafalgar Street and Russell worked as a newsboy for W.H. Smith. 

Russell joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after June 1941. In 1944 he was a Flight Engineer serving with 9 Squadron based at Bardney, Lincolnshire. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Robert died on 28 February 1943 aged 21.

Robert was born at Lowestoft on 10 July 1921, a son of Frederick William and Louisa Annie Bryant. He was baptised at Christ Church, Lowestoft, on 27 July 1921, and his family lived at 26 Whapload Road. Robert’s father died and his mother remarried. In 1939 Robert and his family were living at 26 Whapload Road and Robert was a tugboat deck hand. 

A Flight Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Leonard died on 25th of June 1944 aged 29. 

Leonard was born at Oulton Broad on 31 July 1914, a son of Leonard and Edith Emma Mayhew. In 1921 his family lived at 31 Sycamore Avenue. 

On 6 January 1935 Leonard married Margaret Caroline Beamish at Saint Michael’s Church, Oulton Broad. Leonard was a waterman living at 68 Sycamore Avenue and Margaret was a cook living at Hall Road. By 1939 they were living at Llanberis, Broad Road, and Leonard was a yacht steward. Margaret remarried in 1947. 

A Gunner II with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Roy died on 24th of September 1947 aged 22. 

Roy was born at Lowestoft in 1924, a son of Osgood Robert and Bella Trundle. His family lived at 50 Stanford Street and subsequently moved to 49 London Road South.

Roy joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve after October 1942. By September 1947 he was an Air Gunner serving with 97 Squadron.

A Leading Aircraftman with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Gordon died on 25th of November 1942 aged 25. 

Gordon was born at Lowestoft on 16 October 1917, a son of James Harry and Rennie Warner. In 1921 his family lived at 81 Beresford Road and by 1939 they were living at 50 Beccles Road, Oulton Broad. In 1941 Gordon married Hazel Bird; this was registered in the Lothingland district. 

A Corporal with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Allan died on 8th of December 1943 aged 22. 

Allan was born at Lowestoft on 9 October 1921, a son of Samuel and Elizabeth Ann Boyce. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 11 December 1921 and his family lived at 61 Sussex Road. By 1939 his family were living at 45 London Road South and Allan was a printer’s apprentice. 

Allan enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve between September 1939 and August 1940. 

An Aircraftman 1st Class with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, John died on 12th of May 1941 aged 29. 

John was born at Lowestoft on 11 March 1912 a son of Frederic William and Fenella Woolnough. In 1921 his family lived at 127 Wollaston Road. By 1939 they were living at 1 Cottages, corner, Belvedere Road and John was an under manager with a retail grocery and food distributor. 

A Corporal with No 1Base Signals Repair Unit, George died on 7th of November 1944 aged 22. 

George was born at Lowestoft on 5 December 1921, a son of Frederick M. and Ethel May Folkard. In 1939 his family lived at 5 Broad View Villa, Hall Road, and George was a clerk in an ironmonger’s shop and apprentice shopkeeper. 

In 1942 George married Ruth Evelyn Leeds, this was registered in the Lothingland district. In 1944 their home was at 37 Duke’s Head Street. 

A Sergeant with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Jack died on 24th of July 1941 at the age of 27. 

Jack was born at Lowestoft on 29 August 1913, a son of George Edward and Margaret Isabel Overy. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 19 September 1913 and his family lived at 23 Payne Street and this was still their home in 1939. 

A Pilot Officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Philip died on 2nd of May 1941 aged 27. 

Philip was born at North Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, on 19 October 1913 a son of Arthur and Elena Goode. In 1921 they lived at Ghetty, Rubery, Birmingham. 

On 19 December 1936 Philip married Evelyn Hilda Agnes Grice at Saint Margaret’s Church. Philip was a storeman living at 272 Raglan Street and Evelyn lived at 57 Reeve Street. By 1939 they were living at 234 Raglan Street and Philip was the chief managing clerk at a rope manufacturer. 
 

A Leading Aircraftman with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Allan died on 2nd of May 1943 aged 29.

Allan was born at Longfield, Kent, on 27 May 1913, a son of William and Edith Crouch. He was baptised at Saint Mary the Virgin Church, Fawkham, Kent, on 17 August 1913. The 1939 Register shows Allan living with his widowed mother, and siblings, at Yew Cottage, New Barn, Dartford. Allan was a butcher's roundsman and was also a member of the Auxiliary Fire Service. 

A Aircraftman 2nd Class, William died on 3rd of May 1944 at the age of 28. 

William was born at Lowestoft on 26 September 1915, a son of James William and Ethel M. Simmons. In 1921 his family lived at 17 Lorne Road, Lowestoft. 

On 27 March 1937 William married Mary Rosalind Girling at Saint Mark's Church, Oulton Broad. William was living at 117 Victoria Road and worked as a fitter, Mary lived at 1 Diamond Terrace, Beccles Road. By 1939 they were living at Green Shutters, The Street, Carlton Colville, and William worked at a wire and cable factory. 

A Corporal with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Cecil died on 2nd of November 1943 aged 34. 

Cecil was born at Blundeston on 16 September 1909, a son of Arthur James and Maud Ethel Wright. Cecil's father was killed in action in 1917 whilst serving with the Suffolk Regiment.

By 1921 Cecil's mother had remarried and the family lived at 16 Worthing Road, Lowestoft.
