1st Bn.

Albert Edward Cornish

A Private with the 1st Battalion, Albert died on 21st of September 1918 aged of 27.

Albert was born at Fisherton Delamere, Wiltshire, on 4 June 1891, a son of James William and Frances Helen Cornish. He was baptised at Fisherton Delamere on 26 July 1891 and his family lived at Bapton. By 1901 they were living at the Dairy House, at the College of Agriculture, North Clanford, Hampshire. In 1911 his family lived at Benacre and Albert was a farm stockman. 

William Tripp

A Private with the 1st Battalion, William died on 26th of October 1917 at the age of 20. 

William was born at Blundeston in 1897, a son of James and Rosa Tripp. In 1901 his family lived at Lound Road, Blundeston. By 1911 they were living at Flixton and William was a gardener’s labourer. Later his parents lived at Pond Farm Cottage, Saint Olaves Road, Herringfleet.

William attested for the Army, at Lowestoft, on 15 November 1915 and was placed on the Class B reserve. At the time he was living at Flixton Run, near Lowestoft, and working as a gardener.

George Frederick Edwards

A Private with the 2/4th Battalion, George died on 5th of November 1917 at the age of 25. 

George was born at Lowestoft on 13 May 1892, a son of James and Sarah Edwards. By 1896 his family were living at 44 Stanley Street, and this was still the family home in 1911, when George worked as a grocer’s assistant. Subsequently George moved to Chatham.

Robert Victor Cross

A Private with the 5th Battalion, Robert died on 4th of September 1942 aged 33.

Robert was born at Kirkley on 6 July 1909, a son of Robert John and Ellen Cross. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 9 July 1909, and his family lived at 1 Ivory Terrace, Colville Road. In 1911 his family lived at 31 Lawson Road. Robert became a pupil at Lovewell School on 20 April 1914. In 1921 Robert’s family lived at 7 Frances Terrace, and by 1939 Robert’s they were living at 55 Long Road, and Robert was a general labourer.

John William Frederick Bond

A Private with the 6th Battalion, John died on 29th of September 1918 aged 38. 

John was born at Lowestoft on 4 August 1879, a son of John and Emma Mariah Bond. He was baptised at Christ Church on 28 March 1880. In 1881 his family lived at 5 South Arnold Street, and in 1891 at Walton Road which was still their residence in 1901 when John was an apprentice sailmaker.

George Henry Hayward

A Private with the 6th Battalion, George died on 28th of March 1918 at the age of 40. 

George was born at Elmsted, Kent, on 18 February 1878, a son of Thomas and Frances Camelia Hayward. He was baptised at Elmsted, Kent, on 28 April 1878. In 1881 his family lived at Elmsted. In 1891 they lived at The Street, Hastingleigh Kent, and George was an agricultural labourer. By 1911 they were living at Bishop Cottages, The Street, Hastingleigh, and George was a farm labourer. 

James Ernest Bly Redgrave

A Private with 6th Bn., James died on 9th of April 1918 at the age of 34. 

James was born at Lowestoft on 31 January 1884, a son of Edmund and Ann M. Redgrave. James was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 21 June 1884. In 1891 his family lived Sudbury Cottages, 1 Bevan Street, Lowestoft. By 1911 his family were living at 12 Sandringham Road and James was a fish packer.

At some point James had served with the Suffolk Regiment. 

James Victor Swan

A Private with the 6th Battalion, James died on 13th of May 1918 aged 19.

James was born at Lowestoft in 1898, a son of William James and Alice Maud Swan. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 4 November 1898 and his family lived at 3 Burcham Square. In 1901 his family were living at 2 Wilde’s Street and in 1911 at 3 Rant Score East. Later his family lived at 3 Reeve Street. James worked as a deck hand, at Lowestoft Harbour, for the Great Eastern Railway Company.

Sidney Avril Brand

A Private with the 7th Battalion, Sidney died on 27th of September 1916 at the age of 26. 

Sidney was born at Lowestoft on 2 April 1891, a son of Robert William and Kate Eliza Brand. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 6 May 1891 and his family lived at Laundry Lane. In 1911 they were still living at Laundry Lane and Sidney was a farm labourer. Later his parents lived at 7 Waveney Terrace, Victoria Road, Oulton Broad.

Frederick Arthur Brown

A Private with 7th Bn., Frederick died on 3rd of August 1917 at the age of 23. 

Frederick was born at Chelsfield, Kent, on 14 March 1894, a son of Frederick Arthur and Florence Ellen Brown of 6 Wellington Road, Pakefield, Lowestoft. Frederick was educated at Farnborough and later at Morton Road School. 

Frederick married Hilda Boyce at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 2 November 1915. At that time he was working as a plumber at Blackheath, Kent. 

Ernest Easey

Ernest Easey

A Private with the 7th Battalion, Ernest died on 1st of October 1916 at the age of 21. 

Ernest was born at Pakefield in 1895, a son of Horace and Margaret Easey. He was baptised at All Saints’ Church, Pakefield, on 9 June 1895. In 1901 his family lived at 7 Glencoe Terrace, Kirkley, and by 1911 at 528 London Road and Ernest was a farmer’s pupil.

Percy Allen Smith

A Private with the 7th Battalion, Percy died on 23rd of July 1917 at the age of 21. 

Percy was born at Corton in 1896, a son of Arthur and Elizabeth Smith. In 1901 the family lived at Mill Lane, Corton, and by 1911 at 2 Mill Loke Cottages, Corton, and Percy was an apprentice printer. By 1915 they were living at 2 Briar Cliffe, Corton Road, Lowestoft. Later Percy’s parents lived at Manor Close Cottage, Hopton, and, subsequently at 33 Tennyson Road, Lowestoft.

Frank George Ward

Frank George Ward

A Private with the 7th Battalion, Frank died on 23rd of July 1917 at the age of 22. 

Frank was born at Rushmere in 1894, a son of William and Martha Ward. He was baptised at Saint Michael’s Church, Rushmere, on 9 September 1894. In 1901 his family lived at Rectory Cottages, Rushmere. By 1911 they were living at 424 London Road South and Frank was a bootmaker’s apprentice.

Charles Samuel Gooch

A Private with the 8th Battalion. Charles died on 21st of March 1918 at the age of 19. 

Charles was born at Somerleyton on 21 December 1899, a son of Benjamin Charles and Edith Georgina Gooch. He was baptised at Saint Mary's Church, Somerleyton on 5 February 1899 and his family lived at The Street, Somerleyton. By 1911 his family were living at 15 Severn Terrace, Kirkley Run, and later at 57 Oxford Road, Lowestoft.
