Thomas John Brinded
A Private with 1/4th Bn., Thomas died on 2nd of November 1917 at the age of 38.
Thomas was born at Mutford in 1879, a son of Thomas and Christina Brinded. In 1881 his family lived at Mutford and in 1887 they lived at Burlingham. Thomas' mother died in 1887 and his father married Mary A. Lubbock in 1889. In 1891 his family lived at Bakers Road, Halvergate, Norfolk. By 1901 his family were living at Farm House, Geldeston, and Thomas worked on the farm for his father.

James William Kemp
A Private with 1/4th Bn. James died on 25th of September 1915 at the age of 34.
James was born at Somerleyton in 1881, a son of James William and Mary Ann Kemp. For all of his life James' family lived at 3 Brickfields Cottages, The Street, Somerleyton. In 1911 James worked as a wherryman with the Somerleyton Estate.
James married Hannah Maria Lound, at Norwich, in 1911. They lived at 3 Old Barge Yard, King Street, Norwich.

William Ernest Neale
A Private with 1/4th Bn., William died on 19th of April 1917 at the age of 26.
William was born at Stibbard, Norfolk, on 10 June 1891, a son of Henry and Sarah Ann Neale. He was baptised at Stibbard parish church on 12 July 1891, and his family lived at Stibbard. In 1901 his family was still living at Stibbard, but by 1911 they were living at Holkham, near Wells, and William was a farm labourer.
William was still living at Holkham when he volunteered and enlisted in the Norfolk Regiment, at Norwich, on 15 September 1914. Initially his service number was 2896.

Henry George Briggs
A Corporal with the 1/5th Battalion, Henry died on 4th of January 1918 at the age of 33.
Henry was born at Wrentham, Suffolk, in 1884, a son of Henry William and Sarah Anne Briggs. In 1891 his family lived at London Road, Wrentham, and this was still their address in 1901 when Henry worked as a rural postman.

Henry George William Howell
A Corporal with 1/5th Bn., Henry died on 12th of August 1915 at the age of 32.
Henry was born at Pulham Market, Norfolk, in 1883, a son of Henry Edwin and Emma Howell. In 1891 his family lived at 41 Theatre Street, East Dereham. In 1901 his family lived at 39 A Thistle Terrace, Theatre Street, East Dereham, and Henry worked as a railway porter. This was still their address in 1911 and Henry worked as a general labourer. Later his family lived at 7 Beresford Road, Lowestoft.

Charles Allum
A Private with 1st Bn. Charles died on 12th of March 1915 at the age of 39.
Charles was born at Horham, Suffolk, in 1876, a son of Francis and Eliza Allum. In 1881 he was living with his uncle and aunt, William and Rebecca Allum, at Horham. In 1891 he was working as a farm labourer and living with his parents and siblings as Baylham, Suffolk.

Frank Baxter
A Private with 1st Bn., Frank died on 4th of September 1916 at the age of 21.
Frank was born at Lowestoft in 1894, a son of Frederick and Harriet Sarah Baxter. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 6 January 1895 and his family lived at 41 Lawson Road. By 1901 they were living at 19 Cleveland Road, and this was still their home in 1911 when Frank worked as a stonemason's apprentice. Later his parents lived at Burleigh, Kirkley Cliff Road, Lowestoft.

George Valentine Bessey
A Private with 1st Bn., George died on 27th of May 1915 at the age of 30.
William was born at Oulton on 14 February 1885, a son of William and Sarah Bessey. He was baptised at Saint Michael’s Church, Oulton, on 15 March 1885. In 1891 his family lived at Yarmouth Road, Oulton. By 1901 George's mother had died and his family lived next to Rose Cottage, The Street, Oulton, and in by 1911 they were living at 4 The Street, Oulton.

Walter Edward Bunn
A Private with 1st Bn. Walter died on 24th of August 1914 at the age of 32.
Walter was born at Pakefield on 12 June 1882, a son of Charles and Anna Bunn. He was baptised at All Saints Church, Pakefield, on 8 June 1884, From 19 October 1885 he attended Cunningham School, Pakefield. In 1891 his family lived at 2 Mickleburgh Cottages, Mill Road, Pakefield. From 7 September 1891 Walter attended Saint Margaret's School. In 1901 his family lived at 10 Wellington Cottages, Clapham Road, and Walter worked as a labourer and later as a blacksmith.

Walter Robert Chilvers
A Sergeant with 1st Bn. Walter died on 24th of August 1914 at the age of 40.
Walter was born at Kirkley in 1874, a son of Eliza Chilvers. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 18 March 1875. In 1881 his family lived at 25 Southwell Place, Lowestoft, and by 1891 at Elizabeth Cottage, Southwell Road, and Walter worked as a grocery storekeeper. Later his mother lived at 55 Southwell Road, Lowestoft.
Walter enlisted in the Army at Norwich in 1896. He joined the Norfolk Regiment.

Lewis Last Green
A Private with 1st Bn., Lewis died on 30th of January 1915 at the age of 24.
Lewis was born at Lowestoft on 3 November 1891, a son of Lewis Last Green and Harriett Green. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 2 December 1891, and his family lived at 38 Stanford Street. In 1901 his family lived at 129 Wollaston Road. Lewis attended the British School, Lowestoft, and from 16 September 1901 was a pupil at Saint Margaret's School, Lowestoft. His mother died in 1906 and his father remarried and the family lived at 18 Stanford Street, Lowestoft.

Alfred Frank Holl
A Private with 1st Bn. Alfred died on 5th of September 1916 at the age of 16.
Alfred was born at Saint Leonard's, Sussex, in 1899, a son of Frank Augustus and Maud Holl. In 1901 his family lived at 4 Silverhill Villas, Hastings Saint Matthew's, Sussex. By 1911 his family were living at The Bungalow, Chestnut Avenue, Oulton Broad.
Alfred enlisted at Norwich and joined the 2/6th (Cyclist) Battalion Norfolk Regiment, number 2318. Later he was posted to the 1st Battalion, in France, and renumbered 43137.

Horace Stanley Neville Horne
A Private with the 1st Battalion, Horace died on 29th of June 1917 at the age of 20.
Horace was born at Wandsworth, London, on 8 October 1896, a son of Charles John and Louisa Sarah Horne. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Vauxhall, London, on 22 November 1898, and his family lived at 5 South Lambeth Road. In 1901 they lived at 208 Earlsfield Road, Wandsworth.

George William Knights
A Private with 1st Bn. George died on 24th of August 1914 at the age of 29.
George was born at Lowestoft on 17 December 1883, a son of Charles Owen and Margaret Knights. Throughout his life George's family lived at 18 Alma Road, Lowestoft. George was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 7 March 1886.

Benjamin Moates
A Private with the 1st Battalion, Benjamin died on 29th of October 1917 at the age of 38.
Benjamin was born at Catton, Norwich in 1879, a son of Benjamin and Agnes Keturch Moates. In 1881 his family lived at Philadelphia Cottages, Norwich, and in 1891 their address was 115 Philadelphia Lane, Norwich. In 1892 Benjamin was summoned for throwing a stone at a neighbour and fined two shillings and six pence. By 1895 the family were living at Haddiscoe.

Walter Herbert Roach
A Private with 1st Battalion. Walter died on 11th of May 1917 at the age of 37.
Walter was born at Lowestoft on 11 June 1880, a son of William and Susan Roach. In 1881 his family lived at 27 North Raglan Street. From 19 March 1888 Walter attended Saint Margaret's Boys' School. In 1901 his family lived at 128 Raglan Street, and Walter worked as a baker.

Robert Percival Sands
A Private with the 1st Battalion, Robert died on 27th of July 1916 at the age of 21.

Alexander Robert John Timoney
A Private with 1st Battalion, Alexander died on 4th of November 1914 at the age of 18.
Alexander was born on 11 April 1896, a son of Robert John and Ada Violet Gertrude Timoney. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 1 May 1896 and his family lived at 92 Saint Leonard's Road. By 1901 his family were living at 135 London Road and, subsequently, at 14 Halcyon Crescent Lowestoft.

George Watts
A Private with the 1st Battalion, George died on 18th of April 1918 at the age of 28.
George was born in 1890. Sources state either that he was born at Frettenham or Hasboro, Norfolk. He was a son of George and Rachel Watts. In 1891 his family was living at Stokesby with Herringfleet, and by 1901 they were living at Thorpe next Haddiscoe. In 1911 George lived with his parents at Raveningham and George worked as a farm labourer. Later his parents lived at Crossway Cottages, Blundeston.

Percy George Armes
A Private with 2nd Battalion, Percy died on 7th of May 1916 at the age of 24.
Percy was born at Lowestoft in 1892. Commonwealth War Graves records show that he was a son of Caroline Susanna Armes and Athol Burroughs. Percy’s mother died in 1894 and he became the foster son of Mark and Harriet Carver. In 1901 the family lived at Fern Villa, 2 Commodore Road, Oulton Broad, later his foster parents lived at 2 Jasmine Terrace, Commodore Road..

Herbert James Roe
A Private with 2nd Battalion, Herbert died on 26th of February 1917 at the age of 23.
Herbert was born at Gillingham, near Beccles, on 12 June 1893, a son of Herbert James and Emma Charlotte Roe. He was baptised at Gillingham on 17 September 1893. By 1901 his family were living at Gate House, Marsh Lane, Carlton Colville. This was still their address in 1911 when Herbert worked as a bullock tender on a farm. Later his parents lived at 118 Old Palace Road, Norwich.

Frank Morris Sanham
A Lance Corporal with 2nd Battalion, Frank died on 22nd of November 1915 at the age of 25.

Charles William Henry Upson
A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Charles died on 4th of July 1916 at the age of 22.
Charles was born at Lowestoft on 12 November 1893, a son of William and Alice Upson. He attended Hervey Street Infant School and, from 27 August 1900, was a pupil at Saint John’s School, Lowestoft. In 1901 his family lived at 7 Clemence Street, Lowestoft. By 1906 they were living at 27 Stevens Street, Lowestoft, and later at 17 Stevens Street.

Edward Robert Whale
A Private with 2nd Battalion, Edward died on 24th of February 1917 at the age of 24.
Edward was born at Lowestoft on 5 January 1898, a son of George and Mary Ann Whale. Edward attended Saint Andrews School and, from 17 September 1900, was a pupil at Saint Margaret’s School. His family lived at 85 Oxford Road, Lowestoft. Later they lived at 22 Kimberley Road, Lowestoft. By 1911 his family were living at 19 South Elmham Terrace, Victoria Road, Oulton Broad. Later his parents lived at 18 Wellington Road, Pakefield, Lowestoft.

A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Harmon died on 31st of December 1916 at the age of 28.

James Read
A Private with 2nd Battalion, James died on 16th of December 1915 at the age of 33.
James was born at All Saints’, South Elmham, Suffolk, in late 1881, a son of William and Mary Ann Read. His birth was registered in the Wangford district of Suffolk.
Note that when James enlisted in the Militia he stated that he was born at Rumburgh, near Halesworth, and later, when he enlisted in the regular army, he stated that he was born at Lowestoft.
James’ mother died in 1884 and, in 1886, his father married Mahala Potter, sister of George Potter.

Sidney Barber
A Lance Corporal with the 7th Battalion, Sidney died on 21st of March 1916 at the age of 28.
Sidney was born at Broome, Norfolk, on 14 October 1887, a son of Robert and Anna Barber. From 5 May 1890 to 23 October 1899 Sidney was a pupil at Broome School. By 1901 his father had died and his family lived at Yarmouth Road, Broome, and Sidney was a bricklayer’s labourer.

Frederick Charles Barwood
A Private with the 7th Battalion, Frederick died on 19th of September 1917 at the age of 33.
Frederick was born at Aldeby, Norfolk, in 1884, a son of (Susannah) Elizabeth Barwood. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Carlton Colville, on 15 December 1889. A marginal note in the baptism register has ‘Died for England 1917.’ In 1885 Frederick’s mother married Robert Manning and in 1891 the family lived ‘near the Railway Station’, Carlton Colville. By 1901 they were living at Khartoum Cottages, Carlton Colville, and Frederick was a general labourer.

Cecil William Betts
A Private with 7th Bn., Cecil died on 5th of October 1915 at the age of 28.
Cecil was born at Somerleyton in1887, a son of Charles and Maria Betts. In 1891 his family lived at The Street, Somerleyton, near the Post Office. He was baptised at Saint Mary’s Church, Somerleyton, on 14 May 1893, and his family lived at Somerleyton. In 1911 his family lived at The Green, Somerleyton, and Cecil was a house carpenter.

Leonard Charles Brady
A Private with the 7th Battalion, Leonard died on 30th of November 1917 at the age of 22.
Leonard was born at Beccles on 9 January 1895, a son of William and Caroline Brady. Note some sources state that he was born at Kirkley but on two consecutive censuses his family recorded his place of birth as Beccles. Leonard was a pupil at Kirkley School from 31 August 1898 and throughout his life his family lived at 22 Saint Leonard’s Road. In 1911 Leonard was a grocer’s errand boy.

George Ernest Bryant
A Private with the 7th Battalion, George died on 28th of April 1917 at the age of 27.
George was born at Saint Thomas’, Norwich, in 1890, a son of George Robert and Emma Amelia Bryant. In 1891 his family lived at 14 Swansea Road, Norwich. By 1901 George’s mother had died and his family lived at 33 Calvert Street, Norwich. In 1911 George lived with his grandmother, Amelia Bryant, at 33 Calvert Street, and his father lived at 9A Beresford Road, Lowestoft.
In 1916 George married Grace Mildred Betts at Norwich. She also lived at 9A Beresford Road.

Albert Henry Coleby
A Private with 7th Bn., Albert Henry died on 13th of August 1915 at the age of 20.
Albert was born at Blundeston in 1895, a son of Albert James and Hannah Coleby. Albert was baptised at Saint Mary's Church, Blundeston, on 18 November 1895. In 1901 his family lived at The Red Lion, The Street, Blundeston, where is father was both publican and a shoemaker. In 1911 they still lived at The Red Lion and Albert worked as a butcher.

Charles Arthur George
A Private with the 7th Battalion, Charles died on 28th of April 1917 at the age of 30.
Charles was born at Lowestoft on 20 May 1886, a son of Frederick and Anna George. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church, Lowestoft, on 6 May 1887, and his family lived at 2 Saint George’s Road, Kirkley. In 1891 his family lived at 83 Lawson Road, and this was still their address in 1901 when Charles worked as an errand boy. By 1911 they were living at 34 Lorne Road and Charles was a cycle maker.

Verdy Archer Gray
A Private with the 7th Battalion, Verdy died on 9th of April 1917 at the age of 21.
Verdy's name is sometimes recorded as Verdi.
Verdy was born at Fincham, Norfolk, a son of Obadiah (OBedier) and Ada Mabel Gray. He was baptised at Acle on 20 February 1898. In 1901 his family lived at 'Two Caravans in Bran Lane', Sprowston, Norwich, and his parents were proprietors of fairground 'swinging-boat' rides. By 1911 they were living at Ashby, near Great Yarmouth, and later Verdy's parents lived at Harbour Road, Lowestoft, and, subsequently, at Heath Road, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft.

John Howes
A Corporal with the 7th Battalion, John died on 19th of September 1917 at the age of 21.
John was born at Wymondham in 1896, a son of Eliza Howes. His mother married John Elvin in late 1896. In 1901 his family lived at The Lizard, Wymondham, and this was still their address in 1911.
On 31 May 1915 John married Amelia Rudd at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, John was ‘a soldier billeted at Lowestoft’ and Amelia lived at 6 Love Road. Later Amelia lived at 4 Epsom Terrace, Kirkley Run. In 1919 she married Frederick Moxey.

Robert Frederick Johnson
A Sergeant with the 7th Battalion, Robert died on 12th of October 1916 at the age of 35.
Robert was born at Morley Saint Botolph, Wymondham, Norfolk, in 1881, a son of James and Mary Johnson. He was baptised at Morley Saint Botolph with Saint Peter Church, on 16 October 1881, and his family lived at Morley Saint Peter. In 1891 his family lived at Tovell Street (now Exchange Street), Attleborough, Norfolk.

George Thomas Manning
A Private with the 7th Battalion, George died on 14th of April 1919 at the age of 29.
George was born at Lowestoft on 17 January 1890, a son of John Bryant and Harriet Elizabeth Manning. He was baptised at Saint John the Baptist Church, Reedham, Norfolk, on 6 April 1890, and his family lived at 61 Tonning Street, Lowestoft. In 1901 his family lived at 2 Gladstone Cottages, Tonning Street. By 1911 his family were living at 9 Kent Road and George worked as a fish merchant’s labourer.

Edward William Osborn
A Private with the 7th Battalion, Edward died on 5th of April 1918 at the age of 25.
Edward was born at Blundeston in 1892, a son of James and Ellen Jane Osborn. In 1901 his family lived at The Street, Blundeston. By 1911 they were living at Ellen Cottages, Blundeston, and Edward was a fisherman.
Edward volunteered and enlisted in the Army at Great Yarmouth. When he enlisted he gave his first name as William. He joined the Norfolk Regiment, service number 12151. He was posted to the 7th Battalion and arrived in France with his battalion on France 30 May 1915.

Walter Cornelius Shreeve
A Private with 7th Battalion, Walter died on 12th of October 1916 at the age of 19.
Walter was born at Plumstead, near Norwich on 2 June 1895, a son of Frederick James and Matilda Shreeve. He was baptised at Postwick on 1 May 1898 and his family lived at Postwick. In 1901 his family lived at Broad Lane, Little Plumstead. In 1911 they were living at Barnham Broom, Norfolk, and Walter worked in a garden. By 1914 his parents were living at Holly Gardens, Somerleyton.

Ambrose John Warnes
A Private with the 7th Battalion, Ambrose died on 14th of October 1917.
Ambrose was born at Norton, Loddon, in 1887, a son of John and Emma Warnes. In 1891 his family lived at Staithe Dam, Norton Subcourse, near Loddon. By 1901 they were living at Ferry Road, Norton Subcourse, and Ambrose was a general agricultural labourer. Later his parents lived at Raveningham.
