Ernest Clarke

Ernest was born at Lowestoft on 24 July 1887, a son of Robert and Eliza Clarke. In 1890 his family lived at 16 Oxford Road, and in 1891 at 6 Jacob’s Street. Ernest attended Saint Andrews School and then, from 3 February 1896, he became a pupil at Saint Margaret’s School. It seems that Ernest’s mother died in 1898 and his father in 1899. Ernest has not been traced in the 1901 or 1911 Census, but in 1911 he may have been lodging at 19 Mariners Street and working as a wood hawker.

Edward George Pitchers
A Private with 101 Company Labour Corps, Edward died on 14th of May 1918 at the age of 27.
Edward was born at Lowestoft on 16 May 1890, a son of Robert I. and Elizabeth Mary Pitchers. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 2 November 1890 and his family lived at 2 Belvedere Road. On 1 July 1895 Edward became a pupil at Kirkley School. By 1901 his family were living at 4 Junction Passge, Denmark Road, and this was still their address in 1911 when Edward was a bill poster. Later his parents lived at 23 Windsor Road.

Samuel Richard Ward

Samuel was born at Lowestoft in 1878, a son of Samuel and Louisa Ward of 21 Reeve Street, Lowestoft. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 4 August 1878.
Samuel married Clara Maria Mills at the Methodist Free Church, London Road, Lowestoft, on 13 April 1904. By 1911 they were living at 67 Beccles Road, Lowestoft, and by 1916 they had moved to 162 Raglan Street. Samuel worked as a sailmaker.

Charles was born at Lowestoft in 1878, a son of Edmund and Elizabeth Mantripp. Note that in some records his first name is given as Ramsey, or Ramey, and in others as Raymond. In 1881 his family lived at 22 North Raglan Street, Lowestoft. By 1891 they were living at 23 Jacob's Street. In 1911 they lived at 25 Cathcart Street, Lowestoft, and Charles worked for the Great Eastern Railway Company as a painter plumber.

Edward Cox

Edward was born at Lowestoft on 24 September 1888, a son of Frederick and Susan Mary List Cox. In 1891 his family lived at 10-12 Albert Road, Lowestoft, and this was still the family home in 1901. In 1911 Edward lived with his brothers, and sister, at 23 Arnold Street, Lowestoft, and he worked as a general labourer at a provision manufacturer.

Charles was born at Lakenham, Norwich, on 23 April 1883, a son of John and Susannah Palmer. He was baptised at Saint Mark’s Church, Lakenham, on 5 August 1888, and his family lived at 13 Pump Row. In 1891 his family lived at 4 Pump Row. By 1901 Charles’ mother had died and the family lived at 33 Back Trafalgar Opening, Norwich, and Charles worked as a starch labourer.

Walter was born at Herringfleet in 1878, a son of Walter and Eliza Prettyman. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Herringfleet, on 13 February 1879. By 1881 his father had died, and his family lived at Sunny Bank Cottage, Herringfleet. In 1891 they lived at Barsham Street, Lowestoft, and Walter was an errand boy.

Walter was born at Lowestoft on 31 November 1890, a son of William George and Emma Jane Chapman. He was baptised at Christ Church, Lowestoft, on 19 August 1891 and his family lived at 61 Queens Road. By 1901 they were living at 86 Oxford Road, and in 1911 Walter was a house and ship painter.
Prior to the First World War Walter moved to Selby, Yorkshire.
