Roland Aubrey Leighton

Roland Aubrey Leighton

A Lieutenant with the 7th Battalion, Roland died on 23 December 1915 at the age of 20. 

Roland was born at Saint John’s Wood, London, on 27 March 1895, a son of Robert and Marie Leighton. He was baptised at All saints’ Church, Saint John’s Wood, on 4 May 1895 and his family lived at 40 Abbey Road and this was still their home in 1911. By 1913 his parents were living at Heather Cliff, Lowestoft, and later lived at Chickeny Cottage, Warwick Road, Bishop’s Stortford.

Herbert William Moore

A Private with 10th Bn., Herbert died on 24th of October 1916 at the age of 26. 

Herbert was born at Brandeston, Suffolk, in 1890, a son of Robert and Harriett Moore.

In 1911 his family lived at Verbena Place, London Road, Kessingland, and later his parents lived at The Hermitage, Church Road, Kessingland.

Herbert worked as an auxiliary postman.

Herbert enlisted in the Army at Lowestoft. He served initially with the 1st Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, number 27219, before transfer to the 10th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, service number 42743.

2/7th Bn.

Arthur John Cullingford

A Private with the 2/7th Battalion, Arthur died on 9th of September 1917 at the age of 18.

Arthur was born at Oulton Broad in 1898, a son of Edward and Emma Cullingford. He was baptised at Saint Mark’s Church, Oulton Broad, on 13 July 1899. In 1901 his family lived at the grocer’s shop, Bridge Road, Oulton Broad, and this was still their home in 1911.

Robert James Hines

A Private with the 2/8th Battalion, Robert died on 19th of August 1917 at the age of 34.

Robert was born at Oulton Broad on 30 September 1883, a son of James and Mary Ann Hines. He was baptised at Saint Michael’s Church, Oulton, on 24 February 1884. In 1891 his family lived at Clyde Cottage, Beccles Road, Oulton, and this was still their home in 1901 when Robert worked as a grocer’s assistant. Later his parents lived at Victoria Road, Oulton.

Robert William Hoare

A Captain with the 1/7th Battalion, Robert died on 9th of October 1917 at the age of 31. 

Robert was born at Nassington, Northamptonshire, in 1886, a son of Joseph Alfred and Annie Katherine Hoare. In 1891 his family lived at Nassington. Robert’s parents continued to live at Nassington until 1920 when they moved to Lowestoft, living at 294 London Road, and then 50 Acton Road.
