George Aldred
A Third Hand with Sailing Trawler Guide (Lowestoft), George died on 23rd of February 1916 at the age of 54.
George was born at Wenhaston in 1862, a son of Henry and Mary Ann Aldred. He was baptised at Wenhaston on 9 March 1862. In 1871 his family lived at (56) Blackheath, Wenhaston.
By 1880 George was a fisherman. In 1881 he worked on the Lowestoft trawler Mary Louisa, and in 1881 on the trawler Unity.
Edward Charles Bessey
A Civilian, Edward died on 12th of May 1943 at the age of 54.
Edward was born at Kirkley in 1889, a son of John and Phoebe Ann Bessey. In 1891 his family lived at 94 Cambridge Road, Lowestoft and by 1901 at 143 Saint Margaret's Road, Lowestoft. By 1911 Edward was working as a jobbing gardener.
On 25 May 1913 Edward married Maud Elizabeth Langley at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft. Edward was working as a window cleaner at the time. By 1921 they were living at 5 Saint Margaret's Plain, Lowestoft, and, at that time, Edward worked as a general labourer.
William Hart
A Second Hand with Fishing Vessel S.D.J. (Lowestoft), William died on 11th of May 1947 at the age of 54.
William was born at Lowestoft on 29 January 1892, a son of Robert and Isabella Hart. In 1901 his family lived at 18 Jacob’s Street, and by 1911 they were living at 1 Mill Cottages, Mill Road.
William was awarded his certificate of competency as a second hand on 29 June 1915, and his certificate of competency as a skipper on 9 June 1920.
Alfred Samuel Ling
A Civilian, Alfred died on 12th of May 1943 aged 54.
Alfred was born at Lowestoft on 10 October 1888, a son of Samuel and Georgiana Ling. In 1891 his family lived at 233 Clapham Road. Alfred attended the British School, and, on 17 May 1897, he became a pupil at Saint Margaret’s School. In 1901 Alfred’s family lived at 31 Beresford Road.
By 1911 Alfred was working as an electrical engineer and he lived at 6 Saint Matthew’s Road, Norwich. Subsequently Alfred moved to London and lived at 16 Blair Street, Poplar.
Sarah Maria Putterford
A Civilian, Sarah died on 26th of May 1941 at the age of 54.
Sarah was born at Carlton Colville on 28 January 1884, a daughter of Walter and Jane Moore. She was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Carlton Colville, on 9 March 1884 and her family lived at Carlton Colville.
Sarah married James Crane Claxton at Saint Peter's Church, Lowestoft, on 12 February 1907. In 1911 they lived at 50 Tonning Street and in 1913 at 19 Rotterdam Road. James died in 1913.
Sarah married William Putterford (details unknown). William died in 1935.
James Percival Roope
A Civilian, James died on 29th of September 1940 at the age of 54.
James was born at Lowestoft on 1 March 1886, a son of Joseph and Angetta Roope. In 1891 his family lived at 47 Queen's Road, Lowestoft, and this was still their home in 1901 when James worked as a railway clerk, and in 1911 when James worked as a tram conductor with Lowestoft Borough Council.
James served for three years in the Norfolk Volunteers.
In 1912 James married Bertha Chapman. They lived at Wellington Cottage, Pakefield Road, Lowestoft.
Mabel Rose Runacres
A Civilian, Mabel died on 12th of May 1941 aged 54.
Mabel was born at Peckham, Surrey, on 12 December 1886, a daughter of Daniel and Roseanna Barton. In 1891 her family lived at 6 Brookdale Road, Lewisham. By 1901 Mabel’s father had died and her family had moved to Lowestoft, her mother’s home town, and lived at 38 Raglan Street and Mabel worked as a dressmaker.
Hector Wellington
A Skipper with Fishing Vessel Encourage (Shoreham), Hector died on 25th of October 1940 aged 54.
Hector was born at Liverpool on 4 May 1886, a son of Nicholas and Isabella Wellington. By 1890 his family were living in London and Hector became a pupil at Caledonian School. On 25 May 1891 he joined Flint Street School and his family lived at 113 East Street, Southwark. By 1901 his family were living at Guinness Trust Buildings, Pages Walk, Bermondsey, and Hector was an engineer’s apprentice.
